  • A visit to Cali.

Recently, I visited my estranged sister in California. She moved out when she was 13, and went to live with my aunt and uncle in El Cerrito. The occasion was her graduation from UCLA. I step off the plane in my jeans and poofy hair, to find a group of emaciated people in woven and linen outfits waiting for me.

The entire time I was there, I was lectured about the evils of the government, and how terrible guns are, etc. They accused me of "supporting a war of terror" for working at Robinson Armament.

I really can't believe people. You take guns away, and the only people who will have them are the ones that use them for harm.
Not to mention we don't even manufacture for the government.... Yet, anyway. I wouldn't have a problem sending our boys some XCRs. If it means they will have better protection, that's fine.

The thing is... There are good people, bad people, and creepy vegans. I don't know if anyone ever watches the show "Bull****", but you should. They have a fantastic episode on hippies and the myths about gun control and genetic engineering on plants.

Certainly in the Bay Area, you will find more misinformed people than usual. However there are also a lot of good RKBA people, not the majority - but holding the line against choppy seas.

Well, I hope that you at least got to enjoy your visit with your sister, family opinions not withstanding. But it also gave you a glimpse into what we as "normal california gunowners" have to deal with on a daily basis. For some people outside looking in, its harder for them to actually fully realize what we go thru out here til they experience it themselves.

You have to realize that a lot of college students are idealists. They just came out of four (to seven) years of living in a bubble. They like to think that solving the worlds problems is easy even though much brighter people have been dealing with these same problems in the real world for thousands of years.

They short-sightedly believe that if there were no guns there would be no violence, but, as you probably already know, disarming citizens can lead to terror and genocide on a scale these people have not considered.

It always amuses me that the most socialist and left-leaning people are the ones who want to disarm the population - and yet they fail to see that they would most likely be the first ones would suffer because of that disarmament. It's laughable that they speak of the evils of government, but at the same time talk of stripping the people of one of the few tools they would have to use against a truly evil government, if they ever had to face one.

I have engaged in these debates with the same type of people. Their goal is to prevent one relatively small segment of violence. My goal is to preserve freedom for future generations. They are two different goals and for me it is clear which is the greater interest. Arguably, the most crime-free State is a Police State, but it also is the most miserable for the population and certainly not one in which I would want to live. With freedom comes a price and part of that price is that bad people will sometimes do bad things, but taking all the guns away (even if that were possible) will not solve that problem, it will only make it worse.

At this point, you already have this understanding and are ahead of the game. They are the ones who need to catch up.

If you think bumping into college students from time to time and trying to debate that with them is bad, try being a college student on our side of the debate and constantly rehashing our side with a bunch of people who refuse to listen because they are so sure they're correct.

I had to pause right here and address this one. All Police States in past history and currently are STOCKED FULL with corruption and murder. In fact, crime is a facet of a police state where power is controlled, menacing, and people look to seek advantages. At both extremes, anarchy or a police state, crime is abundant and there is no respect for humanity or rights.

I was not addressing "top down" crime/corruption/abuse/murder which is certainly rampant and part and parcel of a Police State.

However, historically, citizen vs. citizen violent crime (which is the stated cause celebre of the anti-gun lobby) is low in a Police State where the people are oppressed.

Thank you for the opportunity to clarify.
