    family transfer question

Sorry this is my first post, i'm mostly a lurker and avid reader.

Anyway, my coworker, older filipino guy, has a few guns mostly from the 80s and 90s. He's no longer interested in them, and wants to sell them to me at a "package deal" price. guns include: s&w 38 special, python, 22a and browning 9mm

here's the catch. The original owner of these guns is his aging uncle. I guess back in the day, what they did was had a witness, some sort of paper contract describing the sale between the two of them including their full legal names and gov't issued id numbers and agreement stating that the firearms and legal tender had been passed between them

i know this all seems a bit hokey, but what needs to be done in order to get these firearms into my possession?

The one in thirty only applies to purchases from a dealer. You can do as many PPTs as you want within 30 days.

You and the coworker both go to a firearms dealer and perform a PPT (Private Party Transfer) of the firearms into your name.

Dealer fees should be $35 the first gun, then $31 each subsequent handgun, and $10 per longgun.

i thought about that, but are the guns legally in my coworkers name? afaik he "transferred" the guns between he and his uncle via paper, not through an ffl

past history doens't really matter to CADOJ. They normallly just want it properly PPT DROSed to the new owner.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

FYI, the long guns can be done all on one DROS. The handguns must be DROSed seperately!

So if I'm reading this correctly, my coworker can ppt me the guns, not his uncle?

if your coworker is the current owner of the guns, he can PPT them to you. as I mentioned before, past unpapered transfers don't normally concern CADOJ. They just want the current transfer to be properlly PPTed from the current owner to the new buyer. The fact that his uncle may have owned them some time in the past does not normally matter.
