    Baltimore Candidate Proposed Bullet Tax

"A mayoral candidate's plan to reduce violence in Baltimore includes a "bullet tax" that he said will increase the cost of committing a crime.

Otis Rolley said he would, if elected, propose a $1 per bullet tax on all bullet purchases in the city. He also said he wants to improve recruitment standards and training for the Baltimore City Police Department, work closely with the media to increase awareness of wanted suspects, and reduce the number of vacant properties. "

Someone better start hoarding bricks of .22's there gonna be worth there weight in gold if this clown gets in. Discuss?

Sounds like a great way to move another group of shoppers out of the city.

    e.g.:
"Honey, we need to go to Wal Mart but let's drive past the closer one because I need some ammo and it's too expensive in this city."
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

      What an intellectual...

Reloading will be the wave of the future til you're required to be licensed by the State to manufacture rounds and have to register your equipment... but licenses will be may issue and there will be no paperwork to register your reloader...

Maybe he should do something to take care of the heroin problem first. I lost a lot of friends to heroin that they got out of Baltimore.
Maybe he should do something to clean up the industrial district.
Maybe he should suggest cleaning up all the boarded up row homes.
It's a very short drive out of the city to buy ammunition anyways.

This reminds me of a video I once saw of Chris Rock saying don't outlaw guns or something but make ammo cost a ton.

This will work because criminals won't just create a black market for ammo.

That man's a genius. Let's see, who generally just brings 1 crappy pistol with 1 "clip" (the criminal's term, not mine to rob the liquor store? Who probably a) stole those bullets or b) paid at most $15.

Meanwhile, who goes through 200 rounds legally for one trip to the shooting range?

Who exactly is he trying to target with his brilliant ideas? This guy's bordering on the same level of doucheness and stupidity as DeLeon.

You guys missed the best part of the story, criminals rent guns for committing crime.

Increasing the cost of guns won't work, because many criminals don't purchase new guns, and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas," his plan states.

Make bullets expensive enough to make it worth stealing them. Nice.

I assume this can be litigated as an undue burden on the 2nd Amendment which it obviously is. Sounds similar to a poll tax.

Any expectations on how a case like this would go?

One more recycled idea from someone who could not come up with something new. the rest of his speech was just as recycled. They know how to point out obvious problems but they have no idea how to solve them other than to raise taxes and throw money at campaign contributors in questionable contracts. It is known as business as usual.

96% of people who answered the survey do not see the bullet tax as an acceptable option to reduce crime
