    Taft IDPA UOC Spontaneous Lunch

We had our Taft IDPA match on Saturday and were all done at about 12:30. We still had to set up for our DMG match later that evening, but we had to go eat. My brother in law was incredulous that he could legally open carry, so we decided to show him.

I had to run by K-Mart to get a birthday present. It was my first time open carrying and it went fine. Most people in town know me as a gun nut and I think the vast majority of the people I ran into didn't even notice I had my Glock 35 on my hip.

I caught up to desert_rat, galekowitz, my brother in law, My sister, Mrs. desert_rat, and desert_rat junior at La Salsa. The restaurant must not have cared because they were already seated and ordering. I am not sure if the two ladies and junior were carrying, but desert_rat will probably chime in.

About the end of our meal in walks two Kern County Sheriffs! I said, "Oh ho, someone called us in!" They sheriffs just said hi and sat down across from us. I realized they probably hadn't even seen our guns yet. I am sure by the end of the meal the all knew we were carrying, but this Kern County and I guess they could care less. It probably helped that an ex-leo and a gun shop owner were there too.

I don't plan on OCing much if at all, but now I can say I have done it. I would rather stick to my concealed weapon that is loaded.

I think the Deputies noticed the OC situation shortly after this photo was taken Desert_Rat Jr was not OC'ing because he's only 16... although I thought about letting him,but then I decided against it.

I'm with you TPF...CCW for me, but it was fun while it lasted.

I definitely suggest La Salsa in Taft for all your Mexican food needs.

I'm actually a little incredulous about it myself! Wow, did not know about open carry in Kern County. Like the Old West man, pretty tight.

I have mixed feelings about carrying myself, but it's because I'm a noob. But one thing I do know for sure: dirtbags would think twice about messing with me and my family if I had my G34 staring at them from my hip. Cool story, bro

We have had a couple unloaded open carry stages in our IDPA matches. It can be done very quickly but it requires two hands and alot of muscle memory.

I have seen lots of people open carry in Bakersfield. No one seems to notice. Gotta love Kern County.
