    Tatical Flashlight

Where is a good place to order tactical flashlights for a good price. I am looking for some LED lights like Surefire G2 Nitro LED, or Surefire U2 Ultra. The Ultra is really really really nice, but very pricey.

    Or maybe some INOVA???

    Thanks.

Fry's carry Inova lights. That is where I purchased my XO3. I'm thinking about getting the G2 led though. 12 hour runtime is hard to beat.

If it's for tactical use only don't worry about run time and get some type of incandesant lamp that puts out at least 65 lumens or more. The white light produced from gas bulbs creates not only a more blinding light but is a quicker more natural adjustment for the shooter. LED tends to give a bluish tint that leaves objects kind of fuzzy. Don't get me wrong I love all my lights and EDC a 1w River Rock LED every day(40 lumens/amazing run time), but when it comes to the stunning effects, 65 lumens from my shurefire G2Z vs. the 80 lumens from my Inova XO3 (Optical LED), the LED just does not produce the same effect. The Shurefire leaves a distinct green halo in your eyes that makes you very dissorented if you are on the reciving end in the dark. The spectrum of light is very important in a tactical light. I say get what you like they are both great lights. Also check out Candlepowerfourms.com. Real flashlight nerds that know there stuff for shure.
First she complaimed about my guns and knives...now it's the flashlights. I'm up to 14.

If you are going to mount it to your weapon, go with LED.

I've tossed all halogen, xenon, and other incans from all my(and my wife's) hand-helds, and have gone totally LED. The 6 watt head on my 2D Mag is beyond awesome, and the 100 lumen LED head on my G2 is with me here in Iraq and getting very popular with the SF.

Inova has a good selection of lights, giving you versatility on your needs. Their T4 rechargeable rides in my truck for when I need 120+ lumens.

Not to mention the dozens of other LED's that I have.......

You can also go to Plaza Cutlery at South Coast Plaza. They stock all of Surefire's products including the models you've mentioned. You can test them out before you buy them.

Candlepowerforum is also great, a lot of people there end up collecting Surefires. I've found some excellent deals on there with some LNIB examples. Pssst... also look for the Candlepowerforum coupon section for some of the web dealers.

I have a G2 with incandescent lamp already for when something goes bump in the night.

But I wanted a LED tactical light for its long run time in case of power outage, camping, etc.

Anymore sources? And how does INOVA compare to Surefire???

LAPoliceGear had this on their website in red indicating a sale. I thought it was funny:

If you just want something cheap but decent, go with the Dorcy tactical light. I think I picked one up at OSH for $27.

Inovas aren't in the same league as Surefires. They're good quality lights though.

Also take a look at Fenix lights. They're cheaper than Surefires, but offer a variety of combinations regarding battery type. You can pick from CR123s, to AAs, AAx2, AAA etc... Fenix lights wont break the bank, and work quite well.

The cree lights are the new big thing. Longer battery life, higher output and in a variety of platforms. Surefire just released their cree lights not too long ago, including the G2L and E2L Cree. I think they might have a 6P cree version?

Honestly, for SHTF, a surefire would be great but lack in run time. Also unless you stock up in CR123 batteries it could get expensive to buy at a retail store. The mini MagLED 2xAA lights are excellent. They don't have the best light quality, always with donuts and artifacts.. but they'll keep tickin'. A big plus is the use of everyday batteries, AA which are cheap and could be found everywhere.

I have a few Surefires, but for some reason I turn to my minimags and Jetbeam most of the time.

I carry a Surefire E2D, it's incandescent and bright as hell. I like LED style lights but I'm with Giovanni on this one, the things they illuminate look blurry. The downside to the E2D is that it has a serrated bezel supposedly for striking and it's pretty sharp. Sometimes when I reach into my pockey, it scratches me pretty good. If I had to do it again, I would probably buy the same light but without the serrated bezel.

surefire e2d is the best tactical flashlight on the market imo....I love mine...

I love the serrated front so much I won't buy another flashlight without it. best thing is its small so I carry it everyday with me

Proraptor- I carry mine clipped to the inside of my jeans pocket and it gouges me when I grab stuff in my pocket. Where do you keep yours?

                            + 1 on the E2D.
Just a thought: I recommend buying at your local gunstore of choice for two reasons: (1) helping those that help us, and more importantly for you, (2) in the case of a warranty.
Surefire has the best warranty going, but only if you buy from an authorized dealer. The local gun store can be your intermediary, if necessary. Save the hassle, buy local.
