    Sacramento gun stores no more

We seem to be losing them in droves... well 2 anyway.

Great Outdoors (Watt and Auburn) closed up and headed off to Redding, and now today Old Sacramento Armory (J Street) closed it's door for the very last time as the BATFE revoked their FFL. Badger John has moved into a massive place over on Date off of Madison, and I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't bitten of more than he can chew, I'd hate for him to go too but every time I go there I get a worrying feeling (I hope he can make it work).

So officially within the city limits River City is all that's left.

Since I'm supposed to pick up my PPk/s this Saturday, I'm hoping that by saying Old Sac is shut down you mean for future sales - guns DROS'd can still be picked up, right?

Sportsman's Warehouse out in Rocklin has an awesome selection of guns and they sell at prices below the other shops. I just picked up a Savage 10 FP heavy barrel bolt-action .308 out there for only $539

I used to buy LOTS of guns from the Old Sac Armory until my two favorite salemen left... I haven't bought anything there since then as I never got offered the low-ball deals that they other guys could work out. Heck they even kept my phone number handy and would call me when used guns that I was looking for came in - now that's service!

They're not closing their doors yet. Today was going to be the last day to do transfers. I talked to them yesterday, and they were trying to get a 1 month extension. They will be open until the 30th for all other firearm accessories and pickups.

I have a strange feeling we might see some new gun stores outside of the city limits opening soon.

Ah man. I liked the Great Outdoors. Off to Redding eh? I'll have to visit them when I visit my mother.

Apparently there where some discrepancies going years back that the BAFTE were concerned about coupled with some issue with companies that have used that address previously (?), the owner did nothing to answer the BAFTE concerns so they sent him a registered letter telling him that his FFL was to be revoked. Apparently he's been coping with (and hiding) the onset of Alzheimer's, he put the letter in a draw and forgot about it! Two weeks later the BAFTE called to find out (talking to a staff member) why they hadn't heard from him and what was he going to do with the outstanding inventory after the final date of sales. Anyway today was the last day to purchase a gun and they remain open for collections finally closing on the 29th.

                      closings

I wonder if the BATF is ever going to show their true colors? That is, issue black uniforms and jack boots with silver lightning flases on their collars!

This is what I've been hearing from a bunch of sources -- very sad. I did buy a couple of vintage Smith & Wesson revolvers at not-quite-believable prices during their fire sale. Going this weekend to snag 'em and bid the place farewell. Am sorry I didn't also grab a PPK like Dfletcher; there were like 5 on the shelf the day I was there....

Sportsmans Warehouse in Rocklin is awsome. I'm considering working there.

I was at the Old Sac Armory this afternoon... they had some decent prices on the firearms they had in stock there. The rest of the shop looked pretty well picked over compared to the last time I visited (which was a few years ago). Unfortunately, the time that I visited wouldn't have allowed me to return in 10 days to complete the DROS in time and make it in to work that day. It is very much a shame, but probably for the best in the long run for the owner.

I don't shop there much, but it's still sad nonetheless to see a place like that go.
