Long gun out of state transfer

Hopefully this post is in the right place. I have been a ca resident for a few years now. I am back in Virginia visiting family. My dad has given me a marlin camp 9. Can I fly this in on the plane? Or do I now have to ffl it?

I will have my lawyer start in on that... Ha. But I get the gist of it. Ffl only. I guess if he drove it out from va then who would know of I didn't bring it with me when I drove out....man that would be an expensive transfer!
