    Buying gun for girlfriend laws...

I searched and only turned up intra-familial transfers.

My GF has been shooting her dads G19 and doing damn well with it.
Her bday is Aug 7 and Im thinking about buying her one. If I were to buy it, in my name, with my money, wrap it up with a pink bow, and give it to her, then take her to an FFL, get her her HSC, and do the transfer as if she bought it from me (I cant recall if there is a purchase price box on the form), is that legal or considered a straw purchase? Thanks!

    heres a video from today.

Or you could give her the money and have her fill out the paperwork so that way it is less of a hassle. See if the gun shop has gift certificates and buy a gift certificate for the amount of everything. It might make things a bit easier.

That will be fine if you do as you are saying. You would just have to go to an FFL and do a private party transfer (PPT) and pay $35.

If you want to save a few bucks, just take her to a gun shop and look at guns with her. When she finds one she like just buy it and transfer directly into her name.

It is perfectly legal. Anyone who tells you different is a fool. However, just go buy it and don't tell the FFL that it's not for you. Some misinformed FFLs would consider it a straw purchase. They don't even realize that there is a question on the federal 4473 that specifically asks if the firearm in question will be a gift. Anyway, since you will have to PPT it to her, there's even less of an issue but, again, there is no need to give out too much info at the time you buy it.

The other option is to give her the cash (not in a gun store) and let her buy it herself. It will save you the $35 PPT fees but, it's not the same as opening a box with a bow on it and finding a brand new gun (even if it is just a Glock).

Since "less is more", you should try shooting muzzleloaders!

If she has a HSC here is another way!

                  1. Buy new gun.
                  2. Get married.
                  3. Put gun in box and wrap with pink bow.
                  4. Give to wife.
                  5. Op law transfer form ($19)

                  Done!

I remember when my girl friend got me my gun, i went with her and picked a smith and wesson 686+p. BTW we're getting married at the end of the year. You can do it anyway you like, she'll be happy. Also that is a pretty close range she is shooting from, maybe practice a little further back. Once i started to get tight groups from 50ft, i was able to rapid fire the same group from 15ft.

It's covered on the 4473. Totally legal.

You could also pay the dealer for the gun, take home the box, 4473, etc and do one set of paperwork.

If the guns ending up in her name eventually skip the dros on your end and do it once in her name..

Its your choice, but paying the dros and fees then waiting 10 days for you to get it, then paying more ppt fees and drosing it for ANOTHER 10 days for her seems like overkill. 20 day process to get it all handled and money wasted. I'm sure she would be equally excited to do it that way then the way you want. Just my 2cents

                            Be More Creative!

If you want to have something for her to open on her birthday, which is a way cool idea, why not borrow her dad's G19 and wrap it in a box with the cash for HER pistol in an envelope. Save's on the unnecessary waste of time and money and she gets to pick out the shop and her own pistol... with your help of course. Very nice gift BTW!
