There is no 100% a gun won't go off any second

A guy on YahooAnswers who was a gun owner and arguing with a friend asked why guns were bad because he couldn't put himself into the anti-mindset, so he needed antis to answer. This is one of the responses he got:

    because its a killing machine.
    children play and get hurt.
    anyone could accidentally get hurt
there is no 100% it wont go off any second

    just the accidents are horrible
We need to make firearms education part of school P.E. IMO.
    Seriously.

[before anyone agrees that there is no "100%" that a gun won't just go off, you haven't considered that guns can be unloaded and cleared...]

I can be 100% certain that my 1911 wont go off right now, it's in about a dozen pieces after disassembling it to replace the trigger.
Yes, I am an electrical engineer.
No, I will not fix your computer.

You might as well wish for mandatory gun ownership.

If you were an anti, would you want your kids being given firearms education. There is a thread on CalGuns going on right now on schools teaching gay history in Public Schools. (Law Mandating California Schools Teach Gay History is Headed to Browns Desk) Take a look at how receptive those who are anti gay are to having their kids "educated" in something they don't want their kids educated in.

Public school is not the place for firearms safety.

I can be 100% certain that none of my guns will go off until I tell them to. That's part of the design of a saleable gun. If they weren't designed like that they'd be called... well probably something like Type 94 Nambu.

I'm not "anti" gay but i do not feel it is the schools job to teach my kid(s) about it

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

Ah - but you want the school teaching your kids about firearms safety, because I guarantee you it wont be what you teach them. It will be about how dangerous guns are. And thats kind of my point. Public school isn't the place for firearms education. The same as it isn't for alternative lifestyles education, or fishing, or bike riding....

Part of the problem is that people can't seem to understand that - everyone wants "their" agenda taught, and taught their way - what happened to reading, writing, math, history & science? Thats out the window - we need firearms safety & GLBT sensitivity rights and understanding children with special needs education. Never mind that kids can't read, write or do simple addition or subtraction.

Firearms safety is for you to teach your kids at home. Should all kids be taught this, absolutley - anti gun people can teach their kids how dangerous and evil they are and pro gun people can teach them how dangerous they are, but that they aren't evil.

Where's the video of that city council member talking about how lots of people have been shot with unloaded guns. roffle.

I am 100% sure that my gun will not discharge on it's own from inside my safe. I am also 100% sure that my daughter will not be playing with the gun while it is inside my safe.

I am 100% sure that there will always be some dummy who will let their child play with something dangerous, whether it be a gun or Drano, either intentionally, or because they were dumb and left it unlocked.

I am 100% sure you should never take away rights from competent citizens just because some people are stupid.

I am not 100% sure I could keep from whacking someone who said something that asinine and had such a pathetically narrow worldview upside the head.

+1000 what he said ^ especially the whacking upside the head part. I don't think it would make him any shmarter (spelled incorrectly for the OP on yahoo) but it would make us "feel warm and fuzzy"

We live in a cowed society that is taught to fear dangerous things instead of learning about them, understanding them and being able to control them. This is not a coincidence. Look at this generation compared to our parents. It's a control mechanism. The less we know, the dumber we are and the more easily we can be controlled.

Firearms training in schools would be invaluable to saving young lives from accidents.

Reno NV school district used to allow an NRA child gun program taught in grammar school. As more Californians moved there the program was cancelled .

Nevada has or had a competative shooting program as a varsity sport in it's high schools.
