Toss up between HK45 and full length rail TRP Operator

I am torn between either the Full length rail TRP Operator or the HK45, the choice is strictly between these two guns. I absolutely love the look of the TRP but in a combat gun, reliability rules all. Are these guns as reliable as a HK45? do they feed hollowpoints reliably?

The main purpose of this gun will be range fun and a go to reliable combat handgun. Which one and why?

My TRP OP runs flawlessly with all factory made hollowpoints. Once I got the correct OAL, all of my handload hollowpoints ran flawlessly as well. All burps were from me loading the rounds too long.

TRP trigger is superior to HK45. The only drawback to the TRP OP might be weight.

Weight doesn't bother me, I am in pretty good shape and fairly strong, I can't imagine its much heavier than a p2269mm blackwater with a full 20 round mag.

It's not about strength, but balance and handling (also cycling of gun). And yes it is likely heavier than a P226 Blackwater, unless the Blackwater is stainless.

My TRP Operator runs great with anything I feed it. Just remember to lubricate it properly (1911s don't like it dry). It hasn't however, been problem free.

The only weak spot of the pistol is that @$! adjustable rear sight. Mine has broken several times. I eventually replaced it with an excellent fixed rear sight from Harrison Custom.

The trigger on my TRP Op is lightyears ahead of the stock trigger on my HK USP45. I recently had Bill Springfield install a Match trigger along with his fine tuning touches, which has VASTLY improved it.

My USP has never failed to fire or function when there wasn't a problem with the ammo.

Of the 2, my TRP Operator is the more accurate. But my USP is my "Go To" pistol.

I think the TRP Op will be heavier than the Blackwater but it sounds like weight isn't a concern for you.

I gotta say, both are good, REAL GOOD, but I vote for the HK45---I own an HK 45C and a SA 1911 and would not sell either---just buy both and get it over with!

I don't have the cash for both. I just sold my M1a, and am selling my usp45, p2000, and highly customized and tuned springfield mil spec, look for it on the boards soon.

That should net me 3650. 1750 is pretty much already spent on my armalite 308 ar10t. Actually I have kind of ruled out the trp operator, I found one of these for 1700 and am going to purchase it as soon as i sell my other guns.

always wanted a double stack 45 1911, and the full rail on this gun looks very appealing to me.

Uhh, that's not a rail but a full-length dustcover. Also, have you looked into the magazine costs for that thing? Additionally, I believe these double stack 2011's run better as .40's.

However, I don't want to discourage you from getting a 2011. To me they're a great range gun. Not sure on the reliability numbers for combat/defense. At action ranges I've seen some that ran flawlessly but also a small number with hiccups.

HK45. I love mine and I switched from a 1911. As for reliability, mine regularly and reliably feeds even empty shell casings. You can't beat the HK45 for reliability

I've owned both, and I would definitely give the nod to the TRP. As has been mentioned, the only drawback (depending on how you look at it) is the weight...however it also results in less felt recoil.

The HK45 is a great gun, and very accurate, (though the double action trigger is a pile) but doesn't measure up to the TRP IMO.

Damn, I want to get an HK45 now too. Loved the one in Book of Eli, unless that was a P30.
