Everyone makes mistakes. He still didn't break any laws. People shouldn't have to worry so much about their firearm showing.

But, nobody is perfect and nobody can do it right 100% of the time, no matter what the endeavor or practice.
It's ridiculous that the mere sight of a firearm on someone's person prompts a 911 call.

This is the antis wet dream. Gun=Criminal. At least the cops let him go without some ridiculous hassle beyond the stop.

The big difference is that in states like AZ, if you call the police and say, "I saw some guy with a gun sticking out from under his shirt."

The police will say something along the line of, "So? What else is he doing?"

If you say, "Nothing. He's just eating lunch with his family." The police will tell you that is not against the law and hang up.

This. It is a mindset, and it will take time, if ever, to change in this state.

I dont think anyone is upset with LE for responding...that is their job. I think that most are ticked (rightly) at the general attitude that the mere presence of a legally carried gun generates.

I'm guessing it was a slow day for Capitola PD. I feel that the person calling was just a tad too scared and felt that his/her life was in such danger that it required a call to the police, which required them to point weapons at four adults and a 4-year old child to figure out what was going on. And then what? Oh hey, I got a CCW, within rights, blah blah blah, have a nice day. It seems just a tad bit overzealous on somebody's end, and in this case it was a waste of everybody's time.

At the same time, if the man didn't have a CCW, it would easily be spun around as the person calling being a hero for his/her outstanding detective skills and have a very very bad man arrested on a felony for holding on to a concealed weapon.

So, who's fault is it? Overly concerned citizens? Overzealous police officers? The man who didn't conceal his weapon effectively? It's a tough call.

The moral of the story.... concealed means concealed.

I wonder, casually, if the press coverage would have been the same were it an off duty LEO who was sloppy, instead of a lawfully armed citizen.

And yes.... Capitola is full of bed wetters. I spent a good deal of my formative years in and around Capitola and Soquel and those towns ain't like they used to be.
                    -- Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun

Not a lawyer, just a former LEO proud to have served.

Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. -- James Madison

In a perfect world, everyone would be strapped. Imagine how polite society would be.
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

It'd be interesting to know how long the entire incident took from start to finish. Also if there were any lectures involved or just the "cover it up better next time".

Oh no, we now have DUI and Drivers License checkpoints. They require you to show them your drivers license as you go through the checkpoint.... as they look in your car hoping to find something "in plain sight"....

That felony stop was so the officers could complete a e-check. Since it wasnt concealed it would be open carry.

(This is meant to be a complete joke, In no way am I meaning he was really open carrying)

You misunderstand. I live there, I have had dealings with them myself, seen how they operate first hand. Their attitude is legendary around the county. Some of them are good guys, but as a whole the department has a reputation for being heavy handed.
This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.
