Buying ammo online?

A buddy of mine tells me he never buys ammo from the local shops because he always gets it online..is it legal to purchase ammo online and have it shipped to your house in California?

Cool, ive never bought online because i always thought i would get in trouble...next question i guess would be what is a reputable online outlet for said ammo?

I've been buying ammo from www.ammoman.com and www.cheaperthandirt.com but as everything else, shop around for the best price.

For the most part you're OK. There are some municipalities where it is not legal, but the ammo companies are in general diligent about knowing where they can & can not ship.

A common theme is that some companies are more than diligent - as in they do not ship to some cities out of habit or "it must not be legal for CA" so if you have problems with one you may want to try another.

Depends on what ammo Im looking for. For the surplus ammo ( 7.62x39 & 7.62x54), I always go through www.aimsurplus.com and if I'm looking for .22, 9mm, 12 or 20ga, then I go through www.midwayusa.com or www.grafs.com I'm not too sure how good the prices are for everyone else, but if you hold a 03FFL (C&R) then the prices are pretty good and shipping is very reasonable. I just received a large box today from Graf&Sons and forgot what I had ordered. I then saw the "ORM-D" sticker

Most places require you to fax a copy of your drivers license, showing you're at least 18 years old.

Mainly 380. Auto and 270 Winchestor thats all i own right now hopefully expanding soon..would like to get into reloading eventually, i have buckets of brass that ive shot.

Depends where you order from and where you live. Some companies will not ship to areas in CA like: Marin, Napa, Ventura, Orange and Yolo counties, CA; Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento and San Francisco.

Most of these restrictions are unjustified, but you should to check the local ordinances in your area.

J&G Sales and Outdoor Marksman both have warehouses closer to California, so shipping costs tend to be less from them.

it's still legal thanks to Arnold vetoing the AB1274 last year.

You need to be old enough to buy ammo also. Buying ammo online won't get you around the age limit for buying ammo. It's still a No-No if you're too young. If you are old enough to purchase ammo, then go right ahead and fill your garage.
