PPT at Bass Pro - nightmare

I recently purchased two AR lowers from a fellow calgunner. He was nice enough to meet me here in Riverside to do the PPT. But he got caught in traffic and got to the FFL about 10 minutes after they closed. So it was now 5:40 PM on a Saturday. I was hard pressed to come up with a place that could do the transfer this late and since the seller had driven rather far I wanted to do then that day.

I called Turners- would not transfer stripped receivers, I called Big 5- would not transfer stripped receivers,, finally I called Bass Pro in Rancho Cucamonga. They said they can do them. So we both drive up there and luckily when we got there there wasn't much of a wait. Thats where our luck ran out.
We explained to the guy (guy #1) that called our number that we were here to do a PPT on 2 AR lower receivers. He proceeded to tell us we did not need to do a transfer. He said that since they are not a gun and do not have serial numbers no need to transfer them and I should save myself $35. I showed him that they had serial numbers, and explained that although not functional they are still considered a firearm in the eyes of the BATF and DOJ. Then he says that they are riffles and you do not need to transfer rifles. I said not federally but by CA law you do. Then his face gets a little pale and he whispers "are you a cop". I replied "no" and then he asks "work for the DOJ" and again I replied "no". Then he starts the paper work. As he is doing the paperwork he proceeds to tell me how his dad lives in AZ and he has him buy guns for him and when he goes to visit he just brings them back with him, never transfer any of them. This guy was worried that I am a cop and now he is telling me about the felonies he commits. About 25 minutes into it he says I got to go to lunch and someone else will finish you up.

Guy #2, which lasts about 15 minutes and says I got to go to lunch someone else will finish up for you.

Guy #3, which seems like he knows what he is doing but I see him filling out the same paper work the first 2 guys did. Then after 15 minutes he asks one of the other guys to finish, he had to go to lunch and explains to the next guy that he needed to do another DROS because the first 2 screwed it up.

Guy #4, this guy knew what he was doing and wrapped up the paper work pretty quick and only was distracted for a few minutes by the pretty girl that came to the counter.

That had to be about the most screwed up bunch I have ever seen, not to mention that it took well over an hour to do a PPT. Guess you can't find good help these days.

I did pick them up today with incident but . WOW! That will be the last PPT I do there.

Should have but then as the saying goes "hindsight is 20/20." Just did a PPT at Ammo Bro today as the seller and they were super.

Should have just said you worked for the DOJ.

kidding of course, that's a real bad idea, but i'm sure you would have gotten taken care of quick!

I went to the one in Manteca and asked if they had any LCP's I could look at. He tells me no you can't own that. I say I can in fact own one. He asks me if I'm LEO, I say no, and tell him my dad lives out of state. He says my dad couldn't give it to me. I told him I wasn't going to argue with him but he was wrong.

That is not just Bass Pro.

My dad ( who lives out of state) wants to send me one of his guns that is off list and I called and emailed about 15 FFLs to see who could do it and the answers ranged form " you don't need to get an FFL involved" to "if your not an LEO and you can not have one". I did find 2 FFLs that know the law and would do it for me.

                TDS?

Everyother place I have done PPTs with competent employees is like 15 minutes once we have the paperwork filled out. 2.5 hours is crazy, what did have to make paper to print the forms on?

I did a PPT at the Bass Pro in Manteca. It seemed like such a good idea since they are the only place open on Sundays. It was a nightmare. It took over an hour to do the PPT and, when they screwed it up, the seller and I had to go back in a second time. The pickup also took about an hour. Never again.

Bass Pro is great for fish fryers, hiking boots and Moon Pies. There not great for firearms business!

Thank god Bass Pro sells clothes, because if they hang their hat on firearms sales they would be out of business. I bought two guns from Manteca Bass Pro, and it was the absolute worst transaction I have ever done.

This type of stories are why I only do PPT's at Ammo Bros. locations if it can be helped. They have always been very prompt, professional, and freindly.

Every other location I have done PPT's at seem to have an inability to process a PPT in a reasonable amount of time.

When he asked if you were a cop or DOJ, just say you'd prefer to not answer that question and ask how long it will be to complete the paperwork.

Seriously, passing it to something like 4 guys? When I went to pick up I'd have a chat with the manager about the efficiency of their process and their lack of focusing on the customer. You may also want to comment (without saying which one) is that you should probably counsel your firearms clerks to not confess to federal firearms felonies while they're processing firearm transfer paperwork because it doesn't necessarily make the law abiding customers feel more at ease.

WTF? How on earth is it taking these people that long to do PPT paperwork?

One guy fills out 4473, you get copies of both licenses, while guy is filling out 4473 you run the DROS, ask the questions, print out 3 copies (one for buyer, one for seller, one for paperwork). About this time buyer is finished with 4473, do the dealer side of things (two minutes to write down DROS info and serial number info), have buyer sign.

                            That's about it.

For a PPT it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Period. Even with a slow copier/printer.

Going to lunch WTF i would of asked for a manager thats just B.S. start a job and finish it.

That said, i dont even like asking to see a handgun at Bass Pro even thats an ordeal.

I did a PPT once there, it took forever, only the pic up was the real nightmare. Never again and some of the B.S. these guys try and tell you when showing you a gun, and the advise they give is extraordinary.
