    Micro-Stamping and Swarzengov

The micro-stamping bill has been approved and sent to Arnie for a signature. If he signs this bill one of two things is going to happen. (1) Manufacturers of semi-autos will abandon California as the tooling is cost prohibitive. Or, (2) Semi-auto handguns will double in price based on increased manufactuing costs. Neither of these outcomes is desirable. What should we do?

When Kalifornia banned Barrett SINGLE SHOT 50 cal rifles as Assualt Rifles, Barrett Arms notified the Governor and, widely advertised, that they refuse to do ANY commercial business with ANY California law enforcement agency. They will not sell, service, modify or replace ANY PART OF ANY BARRETT RIFLE IN USE BY CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.

I would like to propose a massive letter writing campaign to be sent to ALL SEMI-AUTO HANDGUN MANUFACTUERS and ask that they establish a similar business plan to the Governator. And, at the same time mail a copy of your letter to Arnie. If Arnie's LEO's cannot get the equipment they need he may think twice before signing this foolish legislation.

We haven't been able to vote these idiots out. So, maybe we need to emphasize that stupid legislation can come back to haunt you.

    What do you think!

    Its never gonna happen.

Barrett is ONE manufacturer with a large share of the .50 caliber rifle market. They can choose not to sell to CA LE first because they have market power and second because theres not much of a demand for .50 rifles.

There are dozens of manufacturers of handguns and every LEO needs to carry one. Theres way too much money to be lost for handgun companies to completely avoid the CA market. Any company that chooses not to sell to CA will be kicking away their own profits: the company needs to stay in business and their employees need to be paid and the moral high ground doesn't feed your family. Firearms manufacturing isn't an industry with a very high profit margin.

Instead of worrying about what might happen, why not use the time you took to write what you did and CALL and WRITE and FAX the Governor.

Do it a whole lotta times until things reach resolution - you might win a Saiga 308 rifle!

I think its more likely than you think.

Sure cops need guns. But they generally only need one, and that'll probably last a decade on an officers hip. And when they do resupply, you're in a margin slashing bidding war for a contract that will probably go to the incumbent anyway. Fact of the matter is civies buy a lot more guns than LEO's and its a steady flow. When you add that to the fact that certain manufacturers tend to get stiffed by the large departments, there's a big opening for a manufacturer that's already largely on the out side of Ca. LEO equipping, to step up, protect their civilian market share and cultivate epic good will amongst the gunnies all for the price of a letter saying "Dear Gov. Demand microstamping and dont expect us to supply you or your state."

And for that matter if the Governor blows them off, probably the letter will never see the light of day. Then in 2010 they can do what ever they want anyway. Who will remember.

I HAVE written the Gov on just about every single adverse firearms legislation that has come up over the last dozen years. EX-Gov, Gray Dufus, received no less than dozen hard copy letters.

Faxes, e-mail, and phone calls are fine. However, I have found that a HARD COPY letter via snail mail to be the most effective. E-mails are easy to send and easier to delete. A hard copy letter has to go thru the SAC Capitol mail system and is read by about a dozen people before it gets to the Chief of Staff for the GOV. A few hundred hard copy letters ARE FAR MORE EFFECTIVE than several thousand e-mails with similar subject lines. They get ignored!!

Nope... the big makers will tool up. It will be the SMALL manufacuturers that will be driven out of the market. You will still see Sig, Glock, Ruger and S&W... You will see little or none from makers like Para Ordnance or some of the specialty makers. They have a tough time with the Approved list now, and I'm betting if microstamping becomes law they will just shrug and peddle their wares elsewhere.
