5k rounds and an M4 barrel is toast???........Poppeycock!

Maybe if one routinely shoots the eyes out of flies at 300yds.

Non-chrome lined barrels foul up faster, so go with chrome lined.....and maybe a new Distributor as well.

Uhhh maybe if you are a benchrest shooter and that .25 MOA group isn't going to cut it.

There are variables to this and a lot will have to do with ammo shot and how it is shot. Also what do you consider shot out?

The barrel will last longer if you target shoot and keep the barrel cooler and shoot quality ammo. If you shoot cooper wash steel bullets like some of the russian ammo and/or rapid fire all the time and really heat the barrel up all the time, wear will be increased.

If 4 MOA is still good you may be good for 20,000-40,000 but if sub MOA is the goal 5,000-12,000 rounds might be it. "Shot out" is subjective and how the gun is used is a huge variable.
