he's probably wearing whatever was handy at the time of capture. the article i read stated that he was caught in the bushes in his underwear.

I was in Colombia for work around 6 years ago, and I saw plenty of soldiers on the streets with Galils, as well as recruits who are used to patrol the streets at night and at day-time public events, carry M-14s.

While I was in Bogota for 4 days, from the moment we left our 5* hotel to the moment we got back, we were escorted by policemen on motorbikes. They were armed with Uzis, plus a sidearm, and wore body armor. One bike would ride ahead to stop traffic at junctions so that our vehicle never had to stop at traffic lights, where it would be most vulnerable to attack. Bogota is plagued with the problem of bandits kidnapping foreigners for ransom.

Military arms in Columbia

I was recently considering looking for employment in Columbia... the drug runners have broken guns too, right? And they need a good gunsmith maybe. Told a buddy of mine who imports/exports and brokers international arms trade (leaglly- sort of a kosher "lord of war")about my idea. He said that he just sold 120 M60s to the Columbian Military... the fact is, they are not at war- at least formally- they are literally buying as many guns of this sort as they can- they are wearing the things out killing the drug guys wholesale- I decided against that career oportunity.

I bunked with a columbian for almost a year- they are no-nonsense people- and as much pride as you and I have in the USA- the average columbian has more for his country. They take up arms daily to defend their children and community from the confrontations with the drug runners.
