    Springfield XD 40

Yesterday I put on the California 10 lay-away-plan and will be able to pick up on the 28th of June the Springfield XD 40 5 inch. It is my first poly frame handgun. I told a buddy of mine that he will only buys metal frame. So he is eliminating me from his will. I am pretty much the same. But I figured sooner or later, there comes a time.

What is the popular reload gr bullet for 40 cal. I should be able to shoot lead because it does not share the supposedly Glock design to the polygonal rifling, Glock claims it demands FMJ ammo only (which can be up to 2X the price)

Congrats. I think you will really like it. I have been going back and forth between the XD40 or the Beretta PX4 Storm in .40 cal.

I prefer all metal guns too. But I am going to make an exception for one of those.

Let us know how you like it.

I reload 180gr from my XD40service(4") all the time. Though that is jacketed or plated because I hate cleaning lead out. Not impossible at all but more time consuming than I care to deal with.

180gr is the normal weight, but there's a wide range of bullets available. As for shooting lead, I wouldn't, but that's just me. FMJ/TMJ really isn't "that" expensive, and if you reload plated rounds are cheap as well.

I picked up 500 plated 180gr bullets for a good price.

Well when your loading .04 cents a round with lead, that's pretty cheap for me.

Well based upon what I am hearing, I went the the full route.

Went to Berry's web site and X-Calibers. ordered

                250 - 135 gr Round Shoulder
                250 - 165 gr Flat Point
1000 - 155 gr Hollow Back Round Nose
                1000 - 180 gr Round Shoulder
2000 - 180 gr TRUNCATED CONE BEVEL BASE HARD CAST LEAD

That should be enough for a start. If I dont like one of them, sell em on Calguns
