    out of state purchase

My buddy hs been looking for a .22
He has a friend on vacation in Idaho that found just what he was looking for. He was going to buy it for him.
I emailed him and told him that is a big problem. And not to do it.
I'm correct......aren't I? Or is there a way for them to make it happen?
Mortal as I am, I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the earth.

If it's a handgun that's on the roster or a longgun, he can buy it there and have it shipped to an FFL in California for the transfer. If it's an off-roster handgun, then some extra steps would be necessary.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

There are two people in this question, yes? Buddy, and Buddy's Friend?

Friend is in Idaho - but of what state is Friend a resident?

An ID resident may buy guns in ID according to ID law.

A resident of any other state, unless he has an FFL, may buy in that state, but must have the gun shipped to an FFL in his state of residence. That would add the FFL's interstate transfer fees, and shipping, to the cost of the gun.

That could make it a rather expensive .22.

And as rromeo notes, if it's a handgun, needs to be on the Roster or run through the single-shot conversion process.
