I've taken to requesting the least crowded of the two bays at TMs, even if one is completely empty. I feel like they tend to throw most of the noobs in that range by default. I bring my own weapon, and they've seen me in there a lot, so they're fine sending me to the secondary bay by myself. On several occasions, I've had entire sessions in there completely alone. What bliss that was.

I've seen some bad stuff at TMs. One dude went to sit down every time he reloaded. He would lay the gun down on a table pointing directly at the other shooters while doing so. I've also seen people take humongous pieces of the ceiling out. Oh and Hollywood high draw and gangsta fire pop up once in a while.

Livermore rod and gun club would have been a much closer drive for you. I was just there tues night, love that place, and the fact that I live 3 min from it!

For some reason both of my buddies, fellow calgunners as well, never mentioned it and recommended that TM is a nice place to check out.

May I ask why? It's well managed and clean, unlike Chabot, San Leandro or TM. Yes you will have to wait for a bit on a weekend, but it's well worth it.

I hope they had good ventilation there. One thing I didn't like about Markley's is that the fan had not been run the last couple times I was there. I got really smoky, but worse is all the lead particulates in the air.


I would try TM sometime. But crappy lighting seems to be a common problem, I guess.

Why is that? They are very possessional and the range is very safe and clean not to mention they will accommodate you in any way they possibly can. IMHO Livermore is the best shooting range to go to.

It is very safe, and friendly. I live near bye, It's just too hot for me in the Summer.

I like the fact that they actively check the firing line for safety.

I've been one of 2 shooters in TM's bay on various occasions and found that the ventilation can't even handle 2 people. For me, it gets bad enough to where I have a hard time breathing, sore throat, and all that stuff lingers for a few days. From what I can HEAR, the fans are on...they just don't do much.

If you're sensitive to air quality, please take my experiences into consideration before heading there.

San leandro seems to be cool place to shoot targetmasters is ok because they close late but the lack of ventilation and supervision is a big negative

Livermore is the worst range in the entire galaxy.

Not true. This one range on planet Jaega, 4th planet out from the star Kumiden, is much worse. It's about 1,700 lightyears from here. Nothing but noobs every day. I never go to that range, even when I'm planetside on Jaega during a long tour.

Rental Ranges

Just shoot on lane 6, 12, or 18 so you can have your back against the wall and watch the rest of the firing line, wear your body armor, and a Kelvar helmet. I usually bring an armed spotter with me.

Oh and a self contained breathing apparatus would be good too!

I was exaggerating about the conditions a T.M. rental ranges do have safety problems as do even military and police ranges (I'm a retired LEO RO). I do shoot against the wall at TM and go in the off hours. The staff at TM has always been very polite and helpful to me.

The people who own and run Markley's are great, I shot there for many years before coming to the Bay Area. The fan switches are on the wall next to the light switch, you can just walk over and turn it on.

I do feel private shooting cubs like Livermore are the safest and best run ranges I've shot on.

Where do I start about how bad Livermore range is...

Have you tried to stand up and shoot your rifle at a hundred yard target? How about prone shooting at the same distance?

How do you like waiting an hour for a bench on the weekend? You gotta admit that sucks.

I dont enjoy the fact my point of aim is obstructed by grass/weeds that grow on that small hill/berm.

You shoot up hill at the 100 yard targets.

Wind is a major problem..

The walls on the sides of the benches make a rifle with a muzzle brake sound like a cannon.


The RO's are nice guys and try to keep everyone safe I will give em that.

Oh and you gotta luv the fact that the skeet range shoots directly at the rifle range all though its a long ways off. I kinda like looking down at those guys shooting clays in my direction
