    Target Masters in Milpitas

My buddy was visiting me yesterday, and he wanted to go shoot my Sig. I live in East Bay, so I usually go to USI to shoot (the range is awesome by the way). So we go there, and I forgot that it's closed on Tuesdays.

The day was pretty much ruined but I decided that we should go to Target Masters in Milpitas, which was a 45 min ride from where I live. I gotta admit, this was my first time in a indoor range but I liked it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I think it was actually the first time I can say that a gun shop had very polite people in it. The prices were great; rentals, range time and the guns for sale. It's kinda weird how brand new guns are cheaper there than in CoCo county. The variety of rentals, new and used guns was great too. My friend rented a G17, said that he liked it a lot. The range was opened till midnight.

The things that I didn't like about the indoor ranges ( I assume they're all the same), it's effing HOT in there !!! Loud, I can stand, but it felt like I was in a steam room. Also, the absence of RO in the firing range, made me a little nervous, cause I saw some geeky asian kid showing his gf how the gun worked by dry firing it behind the shooting line! I was like "wtf? Excuse me, you need to step back into the booth to do that". But I did see the staff going in and tell some knuckleheads not to fire at the head of the target.

Other wise, great shop/shooting range. USI is still number 1 in my book, but Target Masters is worth of being checked out.

I shot at target masters for my 18th birthday. My experience was good over there.

I call that place Point Masters as in I have never had more guns pointed at me by noobs then by the people that go there. The lack or RO's on the line is a major concern, I have asked for my money back on two occasions from being muzzle swept and having no RO to patrol the firing line.

I would of gone to Bullseye in Marin than target masters its not as crowded, its cooler inside and well ventilated, on top of that you can shoot 50 cal handgun there, i was told that target masters wont allow the 50.

Plus at bullseye you can rapid fire and shoot at the head on a target.

Its about the same distance as target masters.

Yeah you got lucky and went on a day that wasn't full of idiots. That place is generally a well known hot spot for retards that don't know how to handle guns properly.

And the horrible staff. I'm guessing that the OP went before 6pm or something because even on weeknights that place gets full of idiots real quick. The range rules I don't have any issues with, but the lack of supervision of the lines is absolutely ridiculous.

Just shoot on lane 6, 12, or 18 so you can have your back against the wall and watch the rest of the firing line, wear your body armor, and a Kelvar helmet. I usually bring an armed spotter with me.

Oh and a self contained breathing apparatus would be good too!

Ha, nice. There's always a good amount of air flowing in, but I don't think it goes out. I ALWAYS take a wall lane when going there.

This past weekend at Metcalf: "Cease fire, cease"... BOOM "Do that again and you're not shooting here ever." The same day I also saw a guy reaching over the red line during a cease fire for binoculars (just walk out there) and he wasn't caught. Stupid happens at every range, just it's magnified when there's nobody else to smack them upside the head.

Super dangerous range with gangster wannabe people working there...had multiple rental firearms pointed at me, at least one was loaded. They will not touch OLL's, have rusty barreled guns in their racks, etc.

Valkyrie Arms in Milpitas is another one...cool people and equipment but many customers are very unsafe with their handling; IE, bolt closed, covering people with muzzle.

I will not be returning to either shop as unsafe practices go uncorrected...I don't want to be there when the ND happens.
