I would think you could just go into the forest, find a suitable spot, and set up a target hanger 500 yards from your shooting spot.

The only one I know about is the 600 yard one at the Green Diamond Range in Humboldt County.

Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer. FWIW my mother lives up there, and sometimes we go shooting when I drive up to visit. There is a well-used outdoor "range" that's set up for about 30-40 yards, and there are some long range spots where you can shoot up to a couple hundred. But you're right, there are lots, and lots of trees up there. In fact, that's pretty much all you'll find in Siskiyou county -- lots of trees. And a couple of volcanos.
