How to dispose a damaged handgun

I have a C&R handgun that I feel is unsafe to shoot. I don't want to sell it to anyone else as I don't want to be held liable for any injuries that may occur if they were to use it and experience a mechanical failure that leads to injury.

How does one go about legally disposing an unsafe handgun?

Who would I turn it into and what paperwork would I need to complete to remove the registration from my name.

I appreciate any information you guys can provide.

Take it to a police station. Just don't go swinging it around. Better yet, call them first and let them know you are coming.

Also, if it is a C&R are you sure it is registered?

Yup, I purchased it this year and did all of the paperwork just like any other handgun. I guess I could also just keep it and never shoot it.

Send it in to Numrich Arms ( http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ ) and they will give you a fair deal on it. And they will take any parts that can be salvaged and sell them to people who need them to fix up their guns. It's a win/win situation. And it keeps the gun from being melted down for scrap metal by the gun grabbers.

Don't destroy it! Los it for sale as a donor gun for someone and they'll use it to save another (or they will fix it)

If I had a C&R that was determined to be unsafe to shoot, it would immediate become a part of my interior decor. My wife thinks C&R guns are pretty and wouldn't mind them hanging on the walls (tastefully of course )

I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

Sell it as a parts gun. I can always use parts if it is something I already have....

I am worried that if I sell it as a parts gun that some knucklehead will go out and shoot it and then something bad happens to them and they end up suing me.

I can always replace the slide and keep it.
