Drive north into Oregon

It looks like I will be going to Oregon in September and will be heading to Pendleton for the Round Up rodeo.

Does anyone know the area, places to shoot ?

Also likely to visit the Lassen Volcanic National Park on the drive north from the Bay area. Going to take 4/5 days to drive north and spend 5 days in Pendleton and then 5 days back to San Francisco. Best stopover points ? Never been that far north in California.

Lassen, Humboldt Forest, Crater Lake.....

Any events on in September gun/ shooting related that would be good to attend ?

Lassen and Crater Lake are definite places to visit. Lassen is my favorite camping spot.

FYI - Driving through central Oregon, east of the mountains is pretty frickin' boring, unless you like dry landscapes. If you like greenery, stay on 5 until you hit 84. Yes, it's longer, but if you have the time - why not?

If you decide to go the coast route (which you should do at least one way), stop at the dunes near Florence, and at Gold Beach and try the jet boats on the Rogue River.

Going North, Lassen, the tubes, Burney falls, then head over to 395, check out Crystal Butte just east of Riley, Ore (you have to ask, the sign always falls down). Take the devastated area tour at Lassen and then climb the mountain, and you will get it. On the way back, take 84 along the Columbia River gorge. If you have a day, go North on 5 and east on 504 to Mt. St. Helens. Go inside and watch the movie before you look at the mountain.........it will blow your mind.

Then, you either head over to the coast from Kelso on 4 or go all the way to Grants Pass and then head west on 199. The former, you can see Tillamook dairy, an ice cream factory, and a huge air museum. The later, Portland (a cutsy city) Crater lake if you have a day, and the Oregon Caves at Cave Junction. Once you get back to California on 101, you have the Redwoods. Buen Viaje.

If you go through Hood River, while driving along 84, make SURE you stop at the WAAM museum!

Shasta Caverns is worth seeing if only for the ***-puckering bus ride up the hill.
Ashland if you like Shakespeare
Ft Clatsop near Astoria is Lewis&Clarks westernmost camp.
The climb up Mt Lassen is strenuous but technically easy.
Shasta requires equipment and some skill
Crater Lake is fun.
Multnomah falls near Portland is beautiful

The Columbia River Gorge is probably one of the best drives in the U.S. It parallels I-84 and is 45min east of Portland. It's also a 45min drive that allows you to see like seven waterfalls along the way. Some you have to walk a mile to see and others the falls are right there. Start at Crown Point and go from falls to falls. You'll see a lot of the same people along the way as everyone does this same drive. Continue on I-84 to Boneville Dam and see some 50 year old sturgeon. This is the one thing you should check out in Oregon. Crater Lake is a very close second.

All I can add, stay east of the mountains, 5 is a ****hole way to go. Their can be lots of traffic and people. I like going through the desert, its quick and simple with a lot to see.
