Brother in Law leaving to AZ

He is going to summer school over there and wants to know if he can purchase a gun once he gets his AZ license. Can he bring them back once he is done with school?

If he becomes a legal Arizona resident..then, Yes.

Where do taxes get filed? If you do not file AZ and file CA..... there is your answer....

He lives here in Cali but got laid off so he's going to take a course in Arizona (don't know for what). If he finds a job I guess he will have to file taxes in AZ right?

I thought AZ was similar to CO. Drivers license in that state equals ability to purchase a gun with very little restrictions - cash and carry. Not positive though.

True, but you'll have to show proof of residency in AZ to get a AZ license. Shouldn't be hard to do if he's actually living in the state. A lease agreement, utility bill, or something along those lines is all you need for proof of residency. Check with the AZ DMV to see what the exact requirements are. Usually two documents with an AZ address and matching name along with proof of citizenship is all it takes in most states.

I'm not sure what the requirements for gun purchases in AZ are. Most states require two forms of ID showing AZ residency. AZ might only require one. Someone from AZ should be along shortly to explain better.

When someone moves into California, they fill out a form listing all the serial numbers and send in $19 per handgun to the DOJ and the pistols get registered to the new resident.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Drivers licence is the only thing needed. If he gets his CCW its even faster, they make a copy of both and after you fill out the forms you walk out with your gun.

but op has been a resident of CA all along. AZ would have no problem. I would suggest speak to counsel before you do anything. If it looks like a dduck and smells like a duck......You've been a resident of CA for how many years and are now register off list pistols on a self registration form?

If he gets an AZ license, no problem. Taxes have nothing to do with it. Buy it legally there, move back here, fill out the new resident handgun registration. Not everything has to be impossibly complicated and probably illegal just because you don't have to jump through a dozen hoops.

He's going to be a permanent resident for 4 months. He got an apartment leased already and will be moving out there this weekend. He might stay there if he finds a job. Thanks guys for the info.
