    Armed transport.

Does anyone know what state agency regulates armed transport companies? And possibly knows how to start one up? Any info would be appreciated.

DMV? I seem to recall someone mentioning it in the thread about Gene's solution to the >10 round mag ban.

I looked into this as my company transports sensitive documents, but I couldn't find anything.

Armed Transport guards are required to maintain Guard Cards and Exposed Firearms permits. All of which are issued by BSIS. I also believe CHP regulates them to some degree (the companies not the permits). Although I could be wrong.

Part of it is in the Vehicle Code - for some reason ambulances and armored cars are treated together:
              V C Section 21713 Armored Cars
              Armored Cars

21713. No person shall operate on any highway any privately owned armored car unless a license to operate such car has first been obtained from the commissioner in accordance with Chapter 2.5 (commencing with Section 2500) of Division 2.

Violation of this section is a misdemeanor and upon conviction is punishable by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000) or by imprisonment in the county jail for not to exceed six months or by both such fine and imprisonment.
              VEHICLE CODE
              SECTION 2510-2512

2510. (a) A person applying for a license to operate ambulances or
              armored cars
shall provide separate identification data and reports
of inspection for each vehicle as prescribed by the commissioner.
              (b) No person shall operate a privately owned emergency ambulance
or armored car until the California Highway Patrol has determined
that the vehicle is in compliance with this code and regulations
adopted by the commissioner. Ambulances licensed by the department
shall be inspected by the department not less often than once
              annually.

So, the regs are part of the Highway Patrol: Ah - THIS looks like the answer, but I can't get t direct link to the doc.

CHP download page http://www.chp.ca.gov/publications/, scroll down to the 'Armored Car' spot, pick the only link.

BSIS guard cards with firearms endorsements are required for the guards - there's the BSIS connection.

Not sure on everything, but the trucks are all either Class B or A depending on the truck in question. So that would be CHP and DMV.
The Guards are regulated by BSIS. Same permits as armed security. IE: Guard Registration Card and Exposed Firearm Permit.
The drivers are almost always guards as well so they would fall under both BSIS and DMV.
As they deal with the banking industry, there may well be some federal regulation as well, but I'm not sure.

I think the Feds only care if you are entering Federal property, but that is usually limited to the company that actually moves cash from the Fed facilities out to the banks. So unlikely to need approval once DMV + BSIS are done. A buddy is in this business so I'll ask him.
There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men, out of necessity, are forced by circumstance to meet.
