which is better, ford or chevy

    blondes or redheads

    you get the idea.

my preference is 20" chrome-lined 1/7 twist. others will disagree, but nothing else has such a wide range of ammo choices, and shorter barrels lose velicity for what I consider an insignificant increase in "handiness."

5.56 for practical/tactical use. 223/wylde/match for service rifle competition.

20" for service rifle or longer range use (beyond 300 consistent).

16" and below for close quarters or lightweight/carbine manuverability.

      1 in 7" and 1 in 8" for beyond 70gr bullets. 1 in 9" is optimal for 55 and 62.

5.56 NATO chamber will safely shoot all 5.56 NATO spec ammo and commercial .223 Remington.

5.56 NATO ammo should not be used in barrels chambered for .223 Remington or some other .223 'match' type chambering.

              Read ammo-oracle.com for more information.

A 5.56 chamber will allow you to shoot military spec and commercial ammo safely. So this is the best chambering for the all around AR (ie: SHTF, combat, tactical use, etc).

Service rifle shooters will want a tighter chamber for competition use. Thus, most people will get a barrel chambered in something like .223 Wylde or some other .223 'match' chamber.

very easy: Ford, all of them!

for barrel configs, tells us what you want to do and somebody'll set you straight

                I myself prefer a Wylde chambered 1:8, 20" barrel.

Ask what the Marines are using, the A2 upper 1-7 works well for them.

If 1/9 is optimal for 62gr, why does the Military issue 1/7 for the ammo?

Because the miltary shoots a lot of other stuff including very long bullets like tracers that require a faster twist.

Because of less dense traser ammo. Because it is less dense it will be longer than a lead (or lead/steel) bullet.

I ordered this same set up from First-strike-products.com and I'm impressed. I started shooting high expert and Master scores right away. Last month I had my classification changed to Master. Of course I also found out that I was using the wrong Bob Jones diopter in my rear site after the classification change,( whole new story). Today is a better day after finding that out. The ladys name is Anna at first strike. She became distingu shed in 2005. Good shooter. I'm going to send my old upper back to her for a rebarrel with 1x8 twist with the wildy chamber,it works for me.

And I won't be laid a hand on.
