I'm having a tough time getting my head around this one. On one hand, I understand how the police, thinking they're raiding a pot house, would assume anybody in the house holding a weapon is a bad guy. On the other hand, as a law abiding citizen, if I heard my front door getting kicked in, I would probably grab my HD gun and defend myself.
I assume the odds of the police completely screwing up a raid are extremely low, but it seems like the outcome (i.e., they shooting someone defending their family) is all but given when it does happen.
The article suggests that those involved are now trying to cover their a**es. However, I don't want this to turn into a police-bashing session, because I know and respect many officers. I do wonder, though, what would others do if in a similar situation. How could one determine the difference between a home invasion and a legal (albeit misguided) police raid?
