In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

I believe its 30 days from the date you fill the form out and they send your info to the DOJ.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I dont want to hi-jack the thread. But got question as well regarding DROS as well. Can I use and existing DROS to a different dealer with 30 days?
ei. bought rifle at BIG5 then use the same DROS to a different dealer to buy another rifle/handgun. Will that work?

No. Just gotta DROS again. Same dealer-same DROS-add more guns before 10 days is up. That is why I don't go back to the gun shop for 10 days after a purchase.

Really up the FFL though.....handguns need the serial number and you can only get one every 30 days.....unless PPT

I got cold feet on a purchase once and cancelled the dros..kind of sucked, but then again, I almost bought into 40 cal..I switched to a 45 model..whew!

I've cut the 30 days thing a bit close this summer a couple of times since I have been working overseas. My deal is I buy a gun so I have something new to pickup on the way back from LAX.

And even if you buy the rifle and handgun from the same dealer on the same date you need to do 2 DROSes.

How can you dros a gun the store does not have? Can a store start a dros without having the firearm? Kinda cheating the dros time aren't we?

I've done it a couple times. If you purchase a gun over the internet you can start the DROS before it gets there.

DROS is specific to each dealer. There is no transfering DROS from dealer to dealer. That is the final answer, it is correct, there is no getting around it.

Long guns do not require a serial number to be DROSed. You can buy as many long guns as you want at anytime. A FFL can claim your long guns are on their way and start the DROS at anytime. You have 30 twenty-four hour periods from the submission of the DROS to pick up those long guns before your back ground check expires and you must file a new one.

You could change your mind about a long gun during DROS and get a new one. Simply claim that long gun was the one you always wanted. However, the DOJ has stated and the 4473 states that you are not supposed to add long guns after you walk out the door or even after the DROS is submitted. You can however always change your mind and get less long guns. So if you are a big time gun buyer and never know what you might want in 30 days, tell the gun dealer to put down 2 long guns or even 10 long guns so you can always have the option.

I had a customer come in and he would DROS a new long gun every other week. This last time I told him I was just going to put him down for two long guns because I knew he was going to want something else and I was tired of him giving $25 to the state for every single gun.

Starting the DROS time and waiting the ten days is a fixed and absolute act. There is no cheating occuring. There is a point in time when you decide you want a firearm and you go to the gun shop, put some money down, swipe your DL, and a ten day wait begins. Whether you wait ten days and your gun is there or you wait ten days and your gun arrives on the 9th day, you still waited ten days so your background could be "properly" checked and you had a chance to cool off and decide not to commit crimes with your new firearm.
