    Consumer Reports Security Issue

In the Security issue of Consumer Reports (June 2011, I believe), they list the things to keep you safe. According to them, a gun will increase your chance of injury and is not useful in a burglary. Now, if I am not home, I agree that the gun should be in the safe, but, for hot burglaries and home invasions, my firearms will keep my wife and I safe, especially since we both can shoot.

I know they dropped the gun reviews in the 1960s, but, it appears they took on an anti-gun belief since then.
    Please, join the NRA.

      real facts

The statistics are mis-stated. "A gun in the home will increase the probability of injury." That depends on if the gun is in my hand or in the hand of the criminal. Some statisticians have deliberately blurred the distinction.

Defending yourself with a firearm makes you ten times less likely to be seriously injured or raped compared to being unarmed. That data is from the DOJ crime statistics.

        it's a half-truth.

the same way having a pool may increase your risk of drowning as opposed to a house without a pool, and having a house with stairs may increase your risk of falling down a flight of stairs as opposed to a house without stairs.

I have heard being born seriously increases your risk of dying.

Most car accidents happen within five miles of your home... better park five miles away and walk the rest!

According to the Kellerman study that ConsumerReports cites, a TV in your home also increased your chances of being murdered with a gun.
