I have friends that go every year, they bring a motorhome with a covered shooting platform on the top. One of my friends went to school up in Chico and saw the "War Wagon" (referenced in the article) every weekend-- so he built something similar for his motorhome.

So far I've been unable to make it-- but I am going next year. I absolutely must go.

If the weather is decent (i.e. not freezing, raining, or lightly snowing) and you have a good spot expect to shoot 300-600 squirrels per day per person. No, I did not accidentally add a 0 to those figures. There are that many up there!

It's advised to bring a .17 for squirrels out to 125-150 yards or so then a .223 or .22-250 for the longer range shots. You'll go broke quickly shooting them all with higher caliber stuff so the comparatively cheap .17 is a very good idea for the close in targets. Besides, you'll probably overheat 1 gun if that's all you bring. I believe the chamber of commerce doesn't want anything .30 caliber or larger up there so any of the .22 varmint rounds are an excellent choice.

Keep in mind these are Belding ground squirrels and are pretty darn small compared to say the squirrels you see in the central valley.

You need to register with the chamber of commerce prior to going up there for the "round up."

I need to start loading 50 gr V-maxes soon so they're ready by March. I figure I'll need to bring at least 1000 .223 and probably 1000 .17 to be happy.
