    Any Recent Martin Retting PPT?

How have your recent Martin Retting's PPTs experiences been? Have things improved or are they still kicking people around for hours? I was planning to do one there this week on a 1911. Is it doable or a disaster waiting to happen?

Has anyone had a positive experience with a PPT there? What is their lock policy? Can the seller bring one that is CA approved or do they insist on a new lock with a receipt?

    Thanks.

I have only done one PPT at MBRs...IMO you are better off going down the street to a Big 5 IIRC or another FFL.

If you do not come in early, be prepared to wait. Week days are better. Standard lock requirements, better to have a receipt from the previous 30 days.

I called Retting's and they told me to come early for a PPT. The salesman I spoke with sounded very reasonable overall. It sounded to me that he personally would be happy to do a PPT like most other dealers but that management insists that all PPT be delayed until all "paying" customers have been attended to because they don't make any money on a PPT. He admitted that many people who show up often take up their time and never buy anything.

I ended up driving an extra 15 miles to Sharpshooters in Torrance for the PPT and was treated promptly and professionally. The guy behind the counter even showed me his Baer TRS and Ed Brown .45. Of course nobody else was there at the time buying anything so I can't say what would happen if that place was busy.

Congrats on the PPT! ...and a good Sharpshooter review to boot!

I've avoided MBR for PPT, which means I avoid MBR for any purchases. I think DOJ has stated the opinion that making someone wait for a PPT for over 2 hours constitutes a refusal.

IIRC this shop also won't consign guns and sells quite a few offflist guns out of state.

I've done a PPT there and I buy guns there. Everyone has to earn a living and many times this includes selling something.

The problem is this cock-a-mamie PPT paperwork dance we have to go through to exercise our God given and some day Constitutionally protected right to Keep and Bear arms. Every night I pray that five ugly old farts in robes live long enough.

Big 5 would do PPT? For 1911s'? How about DROS?

VERY BAD PPT experence---they made it very clear that I could hang out for hours until they felt like doing it---and they simply didn't give a sheet. Yes I have purchased items from them in the past---not any more!

Big 5 only does private transfers of long guns, no hand guns.

So, someone rags on MBR because they give priority to making a living over private transfers but Big 5 won't do hand guns at all. Under the law is Big 5 allowed a choice?

I'm not being overly critical of Big 5 since I think the FFL01 are being forced to practically give away their time on private transfers, but if FFL01 do long guns and not hand guns that is yet another reduction of the right to keep and bear hand guns and the real intent of these silly gun laws. If you can't buy a gun, you can't keep and bear it.

I've done many PPT's at MBR. I accommodate them by getting there as soon as they open up and they accommodate me by doing the PPT right away.
