    A few questions

Hey, I am just getting into shooting/hunting, or hope to. My father has a few guns:

    1. Browning 12g Pump
    2. Marlin 22 Bolt
    3. Remington 270 Bolt
    4. Winchester mod94 30-30
    5. Lee N-Field
    6. Dan Wesson 357

He brought them along with him from Maryland, and I was wondering what actions I/him have to take to go shooting at a range. They were kept in extraordinary shape, and him and I have taken apart and cleaned all of them.

Do they need to be registered? How would I do that?
Do they need any kind of locks?
What precautions do we need to take when carrying them in the car?

These are just a few questions, I am sure I'll come up with some more. Sorry!

The Dan Wesson will need to be registered with the DOJ within 30 days of entering the state, I believe they have the forms on their website. Rifles and shotguns do not have to be registered.
All guns should be stored with gun locks or in a good safe. If one your guns is unlocked and stolen, you will be held liable for any action they commit with it.
When I transport guns in my car, I put action locks on them and stick them in the trunk. Rifles you can keep unloaded in the seat next to you, pistols have to be unaccessible, so in a locked box that is not readily accessible to the person. You cannot use your glovebox for this. I just put them all in the trunk, all locked, to be the most safe.

They have all been here for 10+ years, can I still get it registered?

Also, what is your favorite online/offline store you use for gun products?

      http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/ Too many forms!

I'm not sure when the requirement to register pistols came about in the state, someone more informed will be able to answer you on that. I'll try and dig something up for you.

For gun websites, I like MidwayUSA and Brownells, for daydreaming I like Impact Guns and Bud's Gun Shop. For gun stores, I like to go to Bullseye Indoor for tacticrap and pistols, and Great Western Sport Shop for fine rifles and shotguns. This only applies to Marin County though.

Your rifles are fine, including the Lee-Enfield .

The Dan Wesson was required to have been registered with the state within 60 days of moving it into the state if that was after Jan. 1, 1998.

If your Dad brought it in to California before that, it is fine as is.

          The law says:

On or after January 1, 1998, within 60 days of bringing a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person into this state, a personal handgun importer shall do one of the following:
          (i) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department including information concerning that individual and a description of the firearm in question.
(ii) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the provisions of subdivision (d) or in accordance with the provisions of an exemption from subdivision (d).
(iii) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant to Section 12071.
(iv) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.
