A friend would like to sell several black powder replicia colt 1851 pistols and one muzzle loading pistol. Can these be sold face to face in California or do these pistols need to be transfered through a 01 FFL. Thanks for the help with this question.

They can be transfered in California face to face or even shipped without having to go through a dealer.__________________

This. They can be transfered in California face to face or even shipped without having to go through a dealer.
They aren't considered firearms by CA or Federal law in regards to transferring. Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
