    Fab10

hey my buddy asked me to mill out the bottom of a Fab 10 to make it accept a different caliber mag and is that legal. It will still have the allen screw to hold the mag and you will still have to open the top of the rifle to load it. The only difference would be that it will have a 10 round mag but the mag will not be detachable in any way.
I'm pretty sure its ok since it does not really step far from its original design but I wanna make sure before I mill it out and create some legality problem unknown to me. He is not worried about resale or future collector status

I have personally owned 3 distinctly different variations of FAB10s. If the price is right, I'll buy more. Most people on this forum don't even realize that FAB10s were not produced just for the California market. They were produced for people in all 50 states who wanted more than 2 evil features on a new AR type gun, during the Federal AW ban.

Not saying that a fab10 is worthless. Wouldn't mind picking one up super cheap as the basis of an ar57 build after milling out the bottom of the mag well or for use as a single shot large caliber upper.

The only collector value I see is in a museum remembering civil rights abuses.

As long as it is built into a featureless rifle or has a magazine that requires the use of a tool to remove, then you can do that. Personally, I would rather just buy a stripped lower and save the FAB10 for a rainy day. I think we have 8 around the gun shop. I registered mine as a .50 BMG back in the day.

Thank you for the answer. I was only planning on milling out the floor plate. This lower is already built so it was no big deal. i can always take a piece of alluminum and weld the bottom back up. its gonna be a shooter rifle nothing special. Both me and my buddy want to break his son into guns and what better than a little .22 he can call his own. I am trying to keep the build under 450$. So far the lower completely built has cost me 90$. All built from parts I had laying around so if i find some more used parts i should be able to keep it under 450$. his dad is putting up the rest of the money as I find parts available for cheap.
