I used to have both, from the era when you'd have to show two forms of ID to pay with a check... they both had the same number. I specifically asked the DMV folks about getting different numbers, because some merchants would cry about it since what they really wanted was ID and a credit card, and they'd write the CC number on the check; but DMV said it was illegal for one person to have different numbers on an ID and DL...ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

I had a CC permit in S.C. I know that it was attached to the DL. We had to inform the officer when stopped, that we have a CC permit and I have or don't my gun on or with me. I had my gun in the glove box loaded on a stop one night in S.C. The stop was due to an escape from a local prison. I told the officer my registration was in the glove box along with my loaded pistol. He just asked that I slowly remove it and get the registration. I did, he returned the pistol and I was on my way. I don't have anything in my car that is illegal. If stopped by a officer while transporting my pistol I want them as comfortable as possible on the stop. I don't mind answering the question with a yes. I have several friends in LE and they all feel better on a stop when told about guns in the car. It also allows them know you have nothing to hide. I shoot at a range where LEO's come to qualify all the time and they see us coming and going with guns all the time. They never give any grief they may want to see what your shooting. That is my experience with LE and having guns with me on a stop. These men and women only want to be safe when making a stop. There are some bad apples in LE, but there are some bad apples who have guns also. This is why we have guns ourselves to protect our families from the career criminal who has a gun.sigpicComment

Also, I do have a nasty little arrest on my record (dismissed ) that had a little bit to do with firearms. That could have been it.*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*Comment

The ID remained valid after I got my DL back the next year.- Rich

and and cops never pull you over to go fishing, on a random stop.
got stopped twice no speeding, no other traffic infraction. (different dept/counties, even different trucks.) for license plate light out, once during the day almost dark (home 45 min, - hour away).
no ticket just asking questions, looking for a reason to site me for something.
just careful what you say to them. be polite.
but then i guess my age and short gray hair helps out a bit.

I ask almost everyone I pull over if they have guns or drugs. If I act like I know they do, about 70% of the time they will tell me they if they do or not, and where they are.Comment

Guns aren't registered to your DL.... they are registered to you.
You can buy a gun with a California ID, which will have a different number than your DL.
Yes, the officer can request a firearms registration record check, but he has to have damned good reason to do so, and it won't show your long guns, or handguns bought prior to 1991.
As to Peter's experience? Fishing expedition, and the cop was using the new "mega bait"
"I know you have guns" is a pretty safe bet among certain socio-economic groups.
As to lying to the cops it's not illegal to do unless they're on an investigation. If they've stopped you for speeding, to me it's OK to lie about guns because they aren't investigating anything, they are citing you for speeding.
I don't think fishing constitutes an investigation.
It's truly sad the the LEO's are not law abiding peoples' friends these days. They let real criminals just about their business but feel compelled to create criminals out of ordinary citizens.NRA Certified Rifle Instructor

I have a scanner in the garage and listen all the time while carrying on by business of reloading and basic screwing off.....
For sure the dispatcher reports firearms registered to the LEO when responding to any call at a residence. Not just domestic issues.
Will pay closer attention to traffic stops as I think I have heard it reported there as well.
