    Father To Daughter Transfer

When I bought my father in laws safe he also gave us the guns that he said he was keeping for my wife. For a father to daughter transfer like that is any paperwork required? The local shop I called said no unless the guns were going to belong to me and not my wife.

Also I am storing a couple rifles for my mother in law in the safe. Do I need any paperwork from her?

I believe the recipient also needs to have a HSC, correct?

I was afraid of this. We are not on speaking terms and it is unlikely that he would be willing to go into a shop to do the paperwork.

My understanding is you don't need an FFL to do the transfer. Just fill out the form and send it it.

Ok so I see where he would put his info on the form but not my wife. Would she fill out a separate form and send the two in together?

You wife's info goes in the "Owner" section.

Down below in the "Acquired From" section she puts her father's name.
In the "How possession was obtained" section she puts in "inter-familiar transfer".

Got it. So he does not have to sign anything and we don't have to see the pos. I am liking that.

She fills out the Intra-Familial Handgun Transaction form, signs and dates it. No need for the FIL to touch the form.
List all handguns and send one check for $19 to DOJ.

The FIL can complete the No Longer in Possession form to release his liability from the handguns. Once they are your wifes, enjoy as if they are yours. Better yet, for another $19 you can have them in your name.

Sorry you feel your FIL is a POS.

I did a few guns that were from my folks. It is 19 bucks for as many as you can do at one time for the handguns and if you have more handguns you can ad another page on them. The long guns they don't care about in the transfer. Intrafamila form is on doj. If you want real info call DOJ and ask that is what I did since I got so many mixed answers. I have done it 2 different times when my mom was visiting she brought them to me. Once she has them in her name she can transfer you to you the same way or if she lends them to you to go shooting it is all in the family. NO FFL needed it saves you 35 bucks a pop! Also I asked about the long guns and they said you can register them if you want to but seems they only care about pistols not long guns.

All but this part is useful. Unfortunately, while DOJ usually tries to be helpful, they seem to have no clue about interstate transfers and Federal law, and they regularly advise callers to commit Federal felonies.

Fortunately, this case seems to be all within CA.

All this depends on both parties residing in the great state of Kalifornia. If the parent lives out of state, the transfer must go through an FFL. I hope this helped in case one party is from out of state.
