Which is a better carry option 9mm or 45acp

Here is my question, I own both 9mm and 45acp, and love them both. But when I holster at work, i have a hard time choosing which to carry.

I want the 45acp for it's sure power
But the weight keeps draging my pants down and i usually holster for 10 hours at a time.

Now i'm just pocketing a snub nose 357mag

But because i practice with a 9mm and 45acp often i'm more accurate with these calibers.

What holster and belt are you using? You won't be able to make a gun lighter but with the right combo it shouldn't be a problem.

I have always been told to carry the largest caliber you can carry comfortably. If the most comfortable pistol for you is a 9mm than carry a 9mm. Shot placement is the most important. I personal carry a 45acp, but that is what is comfortable for me.

Use a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe carried on a 5.11 Operator Belt and your pants will not sag even if you CCW a Barrett.

I wear the 5.11 belt every time I leave the house. Great belt, doesn't move or have any give. Just wish I could get a CCW in LA City so my belt had more than my leatherman to worry about. Oh well.

I have a regular cotton belt holster one of those universal ones, with one spot for the mag. And a standard belt to hold up my jeans. These are the weapons i have

          45acp
          - glock 21
          - Springfield Xd45 service model
          - Rock island armory 1911

          9mm
          - sig sauer p226
          - sig sauer sp 2022
          - Ruger p95
          - Kahr pm9

These are the ones i consider when i wake up in the morning, i have others but not so practical to holster.

My current setup is just a rossi 357 snub nose revolver in my pocket, but these things are hard to aim, and I am not nearly as accurate with this then anyone of my auto loading pistols.

As far as shot placement goes, I go shooting serveral times a week and can group 3inchs from 17 yards on good days.

Also this is for concealment issues, or else i'd just holster my glock in my serpa holster. I holster at work, and don't want to alarm anyone, nor do i want to give up my element of suprise.

Your problem lies in your holster and belt. You should have a dedicated holster for whichever weapon(s) you decide to carry, along with a true gun belt. This will make all the difference in the world.

The problem with my dedicated holsters is that it sticks out too much, usually i have a large shirt that covers my firearm so no one can tell if i'm armed. As far as belts go i have tatical belts but they dont' fit through the loops on my jeans

I second Grassninja's advice! I wear a Galco 1 1/2" gun belt and an OWB holster for my 1911 compact. A real holster and a proper dress gun belt!!

It's an old idea and somewhat out of fashon but using the belt to hang things on and a set of suspenders to hold up your pants seems to work pretty well for me(old habit from when I worked with my dad in construction, belts never really worked for me anyway, and with a leatherman and a pocket full of nails it was impossable).

                      appagohm;

Nothing feels as good as having a 45 pistol, but the overall choice (for me), is the 9mm with a good +P round.

The 9 is a good choice 7 to 18 rounds is good for dealing with 2 or more attackers. I don't have to reload as much, can carry more rounds and I can shoot 9 easier.

I want the 45acp for it's sure power

You need a better belt, and holster. 45 is a very good choice, I like it as well.

Now i'm just pocketing a snub nose 357mag

If your more accurate, and can shoot the 9/45 better, I think your problem boils down to finding the right rig (belt/holster).

I carried a full size 1911, Glock 17, Glock 22, and S&W 19. With the right gear, it's possible. Look into Kramer or Milt Sparks.

                      Good luck

                          You have two options:

                          1. Largest caliber power that you can shoot accurately
                          or
                          2. Largest capacity

It really is up to you.

hmm... I'm thinking i might need to trade or buy a 45acp in sub compact. suspenders what a great idea. The major part of my day at work i'm behind a cash register, and i'm moving alot in a confined space. And during my twisting and turning, i don't want the butt of my pistol to show. I've been looking for the right holster but most dedicated holsters stick out way too much and you can see a bulge in my shirt, my current holster looks like

This and is really slim, so even a glock 21 will fit and hide well under my shirt.

Thank you for all the good advice, looks like i need to get more gear, was hoping for a simple solution that doesn't require me spending anymore money.

I carry P226 in 9mm all the time, sometimes in a Blackhawk holster or in my small carry bag. People do not even pay attention for my concealed pistol. It feels most comfortable in my hands and shoots accurately.
