What do you PM a Seller?

Just curious what you guys do if you are active in the market place. A seller asks $1,250 for a gun, and you think its worth $875/$900. You really think you have done your home work on Gun Broker and other web sites; and believe $900 is fair and equitable. Do you send that offer? Do you ignore because the seller wants too much? Do you ask if there is something else with the request that increases the value to $1,250 (hey a 1,000 rounds would do it right). Just curious what you guys do?

You can do anything in a PM. Offer your reasoning, ask if there is something you are missing about the listing, mention other sales, offer less. No harm done.

you can offer $20 and a 6 pack of Miller lite if you want.

Offer and explain why your offer is what it is. Explain how long your offer remains open.

Hi X, I saw your X for sale, did some research and think $900 is fair. If you want to see if someone else will pay your asking price I understand that. If you want to sell it to me for $900 shipped, please contact me before Sunday, the 15th, so I can buy another one.

      Thank you.

PMing is the proper way to communicate any offer. Just don't say "I'll take it" in the thread unless you are paying what he is asking. It makes it look like a done deal to others, and he might not accept what you are offering. Say "PM sent" instead. He'll change his posting when he's accepted.

          LOL

You made me laugh; I can't wait till you go to sell something and I'll now what to offer....I'm sure 2-6 packs will cut it - right

Its an interesting forum; and market place. People asking the moon and others complaining about low ballers. The ads that say "no low ball" answers crack me up when the gun is for sale on guns america for 60% of what they want.....or worse - at a local gun shop for 80% of what they want.

Thanks for the advice...I sent my "explanation" PM and offer so we'll see what happens.

You could also casually mention that his post had 14,716 views with 2 replies and has been bumped 23 times, which might indicate that perhaps his asking price is not reasonable . . .

Oh, did I mention that I have an almost new (unknown round count, but I'd guess 2-3) Mossberg 500 from Big 5. Totally stock, and ready for you to customize/modify exactly the way you want it.

$999 FIRM! Don't insult me with lowball offers; don't waste my time with trade offers or PayPal. I live 175 miles from the nearest paved road FTF only - will NOT ship; don't ask. Cash (euros) or gold bullion only.

This is a true collectors firearm, with only 12,643,894 ever produced, so step up now before my feelings get hurt and I put it back in the safe and watch it appreciate in value; then you'll be sorry you didn't jump on it when you had the opportunity.

God, I wish the people that contact me about sales were as polite and well spoken as DieselPower. >.<

I don't see anything actually wrong with low-balling if you're not a jerk about it. I've been low-balled on a few sale items. I've never taken one, I've almost always gotten my price that I wanted. Typically if I get a low-ball offer I either ignore it or send a short "Sorry, but I'm going to keep my options open" response.

Personally I have NO Problem offering less IF I feel the item is Overpriced, BUT I do insert something about Not Insulting the seller.. I have spent my life in Sales and have learned, to make a customer Happy give them something off.. A too high price is NOT something, so price it high and give something back is the ONLY way to keep your customers Happy.. I think it's the Same here.. Offer Away!! I Really get a Kick out of the ads with 10,000 looks and No offers....

I think some sellers are just waiting for the uninformed buyer. Don't be surprised if you don't get a response to your pm

That is something that irks me. A simple reply shouldn't hurt. I mean, the seller took the time to log in, open pm and read it.
