Do you ever have a feeling that you "have enough" when it comes to acquiring firearms? An older gentleman in my local arms history group said something to the effect that "I need to spend my time coveting less and shooting more." Given that he's a far more serious collector and shooter than I will ever be it made me think.
Why do I personally collect firearms? Probably like most here I was gifted with a BB gun, a .22, a shotgun and a deer rifle during my formative years, really as rights of passages of sorts. Along with needing the tools to hunt and defend my family, I also became a repository for many of the arms my family and friends no longer wanted.
I also found that I liked to compete in certain shooting events which necessitated the acquiring of even more guns over the years. In this day and age there is also the desire to be able to pass firearms onto those of the next generation of also enjoy guns. Finally, somewhere along the way (likely from the BB gun forward) I found that I simply liked guns -- particularly the history, and I enjoyed shooting different models.
There are no more guns on my "must have list" and I find a great deal of comfort in that. No more stress that owning "xyz gun" may never be realized. While I doubt I will ever stop buying guns, I think I could at this time without remorse. I'm satisfied. It took a lot more guns than I would have ever expected to reach this state, but it's a good feeling.
I cannot fathom a situation where I would head to the field or the range (or defend my home) where I would think "dang, one again I really wish I had xyz gun to take a long." Maybe I have enough...
