Coyote loose on range (no pics)

So we were out at Escondido Fish and Game this morning sighting in a bunch of rifles. It was me and one other guy. We are busy shooting when a coyote wanders down from the hill on the backstop. It didn't care about all the shooting, and was just merrily walking along behind all the targets. EF&G has a very strict "don't shoot the wildlife" policy, so that form of pest removal was out. We ended up calling a cease-fire, and had to go down range to chase it off. Evidently it is deaf from living near the range, as it didn't even notice us until we got within about 50 yards of it. It sat there for a minute trying to figure out what the idiot humans were doing, and finally hightailed it out of there when it figured out that yes, we were coming for him. I thought it was funny. Two grown men running down range, yelling, screaming and waving our arms around to get the dumb critter out of harm's way. Of course we didn't feel quite so dumb when we turned back and saw one of the RSOs coming from a different range doing exactly the same thing... I wish I had brought a camera.

Deer walk onto the shooting lines at Burro Canyon all the time and aren't too upset by the noise. It's a PITA to have to wait while they're taking their sweet time before they finally leave.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Hah. Saw that with a rabbit once on a sheriff's department range. The range master even put a shot a foot to its right and it never even flinched at the sound of the shot.

Unfortunately, on my current range, we found a deer that HAD been shot...we've got some problems lately with vandals and other people we'd prefer weren't shooting there.

Fortunately we only have a "No shooting" rule. There is no rule against running down range (while the range is cold) and whooping like an idiot. The local wildlife may be used to shooting, but people running at them acting like wild baboons still seems to un-nerve them.

Only two legged animals know what a gun is. I was shooting a 380 in a canyon a couple years back. A doe came running down a steep hill, Looked at me, And took off downstream. I kept shooting parallel to the stream. About 30 seconds later, A Buck trotted down the same hill as I was loading the mag. Stood there stomping and snorting at me. His head going up and down. I inserted a half loaded mag and chambered the 380 while yelling at him. Like a 380 would have helped me anyways...He thankfully took off after the doe. I didn't have to shoot a deer out of season and he hopefully got laid...

Bullfrogs at my father-in-law's farm pond used to ignore him routinely, even when he was shooting at them. He couldn't hit the broad side of a freight train.
