questions on S.D. area membership type ranges

Hey guys, I am looking for somewhere to shoot rifles (as well as pistols and shotguns) outdoors. I used to go to Orosco ridge, but it closed and I have only been going to Iron sights indoor range ever since. So I looked into joining a private range but when I look at their calendars online, it looks like they are always busy with some type of event on the weekends. The weekends are the only time I can shoot, and while an occasional match/event might be fun to attend, I really just want to casually shoot on my own.

If you are members of these types of ranges, can you give me an idea of what the scheduling is like and just general detail of the range. i am looking at Escondido Fish and Game, Rainbow, and Pala.

    Thanks guys

Never shot at fish and game. Rainbow had some nice folks but I did not like the range itself. Pala is pretty cool just kind of out there.

I love Pala, I shoot Silhouette matches there 3 times a month (Cowboy Lever Action, Smallbore Lever Action and BPCR). When there isn't a match going the main range is open with steel out to 800 yards - bring your own target stand otherwise.

Rainbow is a outdoor, very "country" style range with a short & 100yard dedicated .22 ranges, a 100 yard range, multible handgun plated and target ranges, a trap range, sunday trap club shoots, and had a 300 yard shot but closed it and i dont know if they got it back on line. Its about 140 bucks and is open dusk til dawn 365 days a year.

Pala is a very nice range, has everything you could want, including a 890 yard shot. Its expensive and is typically packed to the point they limit your time in certain areas. Its only open Monday and Friday, from what I remember, for "practice." They always have all kinds of tac, Cowboy, 3 gun, trap, gun game stuff going on. The local cops/swat frequent alot to train and qualify and typically have days that are closed to public shooting in those areas.
Not to far off the 15, but not to close either. I love this range but they are way to involed with extra stuff that I dont do. You may be into it.

Esco is a nice range. Only been there once. Felt like they wouldnt enjoy anyone running "less than typical" equipment or if you forgot to install certain things on, around, or under said equipment. Its Fish and Game!! They could shoot you for looking at a bunny funny.

Good luck. I shot at rainbow because you can do your thing, nobody bugs you, and everyone is super chill............ like orasco but you dont have 20 people shooting in different directions but all generally at each other......... O the good old days at the retardant covered mtn.
