It's a very good cleaner and doesn't smell, nor does it have fumes. It's highly rated as a solvent even without these characteristics.

I always clean over the sink, too. With MPro it's actually water miscible. Makes for fast and easy clean-up.

i sit on a towel so i don't get gunk all over the couch, and then unroll a cleaning mat onto a tv tray. i open a couple windows but keep the curtains drawn and use breakfree clp for most of it. a little bit of hoppes in the beginning also, but i drip it on my patches and close the bottle right after.

the little lady hasn't yelled at me yet, and i've been doing this for a bit now.

good point - I have a small old shoe-polish lid (the metal can kind where you twist the butterfly catch and it pops off) for the Hoppes, I pour some in there and keep the main bottle closed; it's more so I don't contaminate the bottle, but surely it keeps the fumes down as well.

I appartement dwelled for years.

Couple of dedicated towls over the coffee table and SIMPLE GREEN. Yes, simple green.....armpit safe seriously....and the wife will think ya' been cleaning the house. Wash part in 100% simple green then rinse off and either air dry, oven dry, hairdyer dry, towel dry.....whatever- just get it dry! then coat with CLP..............

Aint NEVER had a rusted part in 15+ years. Great for general cleaning etc. But I will admit I do/have used hoppes #9 (now switched to Elite) for a lot of the pistols............ luvvvvvvvvv them fumes

I use an old shirt as a cleaning mat, squirt some Hoppes into a little glass dish, throw in a chew, turn on the Discovery Channel, and start scrubbin'. Keep the windows open, and the aroma of Hoppes will be gone in a couple of hours.

I used old bath/beach towels that had seen better days (not that I go to the beach).

I cleaned my guns in my old apt. It doesn't smell that bad even w/Hoppes #9 or Hoppes copper solvent.

Usu I'd clean with CLP though.

Just smoke a cigar or pipe and cook some sausage to cover the fumes afterward.

(No, seriously, just open a window for awhile, it'll be fine.)

Just take your guns in the shower with you.

Close all the windows, go into the smallest room you have and close the door. Roll up a towel and block the crack at the bottom with it. Open up all bottles of solvents, use liberal amounts of sprays, clean, breathe deep, enjoy! Hahahah! But seriously, I use the cardboard box method, I live on the first floor so the curtains and blinds stay closed, but I'll open the windows and patio door, and turn on the ceiling fan.

Hello All-
Here's a random question for you... I live in an apartment, and I usually do my gun cleaning at the range as soon as I'm done shooting, but sometimes there really isn't time to do that and I end up having to drive over to my parents' house to clean stuff because they have a garage. This is a pain in the butt. So, what do those of you who live in apartments do to clean your guns at home? Particularly with solvents, I can imagine how nasty and odorous it might be, which is why I usually do it outdoors.
Solutions? Any ideas for not too stinky, not too toxic cleaning?

When I lived in apartments I cleaned my guns in there without issue. I dunno how it would work these days but.................... I used to live over a young lady who for some reason always had to blast her music on Sunday mornings. I'd just thump on the floor and she knew to turn it off. One time, I went shooting late Saturday and woke up early on Sunday to clean some of my guns. Music started up, so I pounded, end of story... or so I thought. About 30 seconds later I get a knock at the door. I was wiping down my 590 barrel at the time (separated from the action) so I opened the door with it in my hands. Cool macho dude new boyfriend tries to get tough "Hey could you stop pou......" thats as far as he got when he realized what I was holding and the guns all over the living room floor. I kindly responded "No, and please keep your music down this early in the morning." Never had a problem again! This was about 8 or so years ago. Of course, were this to go down these days the SWAT team would be kicking in my door and I'd be arrested as a terrorist and who knows what else.

Hey here's a Q - I live in something that would resemble an apartment building (too hard to explain) that's enclosed in the middle. We have an outside back yard-ish type thing for all residents to enjoy. The backyard (patio? garden?) is at the bottom of the hill, many other condos and houses can see "down in" to it because they're higher up the hill, but the yard area *is* walled and private, technically.

Could I legally take a broken down pistol out there to spray down with brake-free, MPro-7, etc.? No mags, just the frame/slide/barrel etc.

Open the window and invest in a fan to blow any odors from the workspace out the window...

Start by selecting a gun cleaning solvent that has an agreeable odor.

I love the scent of Breakfree CLP. So does my wife.

Put down trash bags (or any other kind of poly film) over the table you're going to use. Spread newspapers over the plastic. Open a couple of windows. Start cleaning. When finished, cap all solvents, wad up newspaper and toss in garbage - take garbage out to dumpster, roll up plastic film over table and put away. Viola! Gun cleaning in an apartment. Apartment may have faint scent of solvent for a day or so, but if you started by selecting one with an agreeable scent, this is a plus, no a minus.
