Detent for trigger guard in AR. Why?

Why the detent in the trigger guard? Does it allow it to swing away for a reason like cleaning, or something else useful? Just curious. c good

It swings away for use when wearing thick gloves.

I wish it had 2. Roll pins can be a pain in the butt.

yeah, it's military thing. while i was stationed at ft. carson, they issued us big thick mittens with a trigger finger (extreme cold weather gloves which no one ever used) but with these gloves on it's impossible to fit the trigger finger into the trigger guard.
