    Trigger job in Sacramento

I hope I am not putting this on the wrong forum location, if so I am sorry.

I am looking to get a trigger job done on my 96 Beretta Inox. Does anyone know of a reliable, decent priced gunsmith around Sacramento? The last person I contacted was unreliable. I have checked out Gary at Just guns and his prices are great comparatively but he is backed up and wont get to it for a while.

Appreciate any suggestions. Also does anyone know how much it should cost for a trigger job on single/dual action trigger job?

I took a gun there for an estimate on some work. It was there literally 6 months after I dropped it off to be inspected for estimate. The guy did not seem to want to do anything more complicated than re-barreling the rifle. Wasn't willing to consider re-lining or re-chambering at all, which I would think should be pretty run-of-the-mill operations for an actual "gunsmith". He (eventually) handed it back saying he didn't want the work. WTF?? My impression is that if you have a Rem 700 or a Win 70, he probably knows how to do something with it, other than that, pfft, he doesn't need your hassles. Of course they were all very polite about it, but weren't willing to consider anything they don't do literally all the time.

Even worse was a guy in Roseville. I took in an SKS I was having a problem with and he (with the rifle in his hands) identified it as an assault weapon with a detachable magazine and told me I was committing a felony possessing it. No lie. Of course, it was neither an assault weapon nor did it have a detachable magazine. We walked out because if he has his head that far up his rectum I certainly don't want him butchering one of my lovely guns. I wondered later how many people he had give him perfectly good, legal guns just to get rid of them for fear of going to jail... I should have asked him "Do people really fall for that line?"

After watching "Sons of Guns" on Discovery I'm tempted to consider gunsmithing as a second career. Those guys do outlandish things all the time and make great money at it. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, it's not like they're being asked to reinvent the firearm from the development of black powder on up. The only thing I can think of to account for the bad attitude of the "gunsmiths" I've encountered is sheer laziness and unwillingness to learn anything new. If you can read up in a tech journal or (in this modern day) pop in a DVD and watch someone do it, you can learn. They JUST DON'T WANT TO.

You might try posting the question in the Handguns forum.

I've had excellent work done at Maraviov in Woodland and haven't ever heard a bad review of his work. You will have to be patient though, it's not just the bad smith's that have a long lead time.
