Letter to Rob Zubak, Director of Sales, robzubak@turners.com and Personnel, personnel@turners.com
Good evening Mr. Zubak.
I just wanted to let you know of my displeasure in dealing with Joe from Turner's Pasadena.
I went there with a friend at around 6:30 pm today to do a private party transfer. Both of use were trading our rifles to each other.
When we came in, the girl in the front ask us if we were going to do a ppt and we said yes. We were then told it would take awhile since they were short staff. She then called Joe and he proceeded to ask for our drivers licenses. I handed Joe mine including my green card. Then I proceeded to hand Joe my lease agreement but Joe refused to accept it because "it does not prove 90 days residency".
According to line 20c of the form 4473, types and dates of documents that establish 90-day residency (e.g. utility bills or lease agreements). If you proceed to Instructions for Question 20,C, no where does it ask for anything to prove that the lease agreement has to be supplemented with a bill from the lease company which Joe asked for.
If I was leasing on a month to month basis with a lease agreement for every month, maybe that would have been acceptable with Joe but I gave him an original lease agreement that was good for two years and it was not good enough.
Joe did ask for other bills which I didn't have since I don't have utility bills in my name nor do I have credit card bills. My mail is sent to a PO Box for security reasons. I have asked the opinion of the ATF concerning this during the last Costa Mesa show and they did not have a problem with the document I presented to them. I have done 3-4 DROS's within a months time and have had no problems with using the same documents I presented to Joe. I stated that I just did a transfer with Ammo Bros, within the last 15 days and Joe's response was, "we are not Ammo Bros.". You definitely are not Ammo Bros and you definitely will not be getting my business as they have and will be. I am glad Joe pointed out that you are not Ammo Bros. as Joe did not take the extra step to make a customer happy like they do.
And let me be clear, I have done a transfer with this same Turner's store before using the same documents and had no problems at all. Is it because they would have made only $20 to do the paper work and transfer with us while short staff? Or is Joe just not educated enough to know what documents are acceptable.
I lost a good trade and wasted time and gas to be at your store. Lately your store has not been getting bad reviews and was glad there was a changed in management. But it looks like you kept some of the idiotic employees.
with regards...

Letter from Joe Crump
Manager
Turner's Outdoorsman
I wanted to apologize and say that you were right. At that time I was seeing the 15+ customers at the gun counter needing help and was not eager with doing the 7th and 8th PPT of the day. I had never used your 90 day proof in the years of selling guns and I was unwilling to reach out to others in the chain to try to help you guys. At that point I failed in serving the customer. And unfortunately by the time I had a chance to call my boss and find out that I could have used it both of you were gone. I wanted to extend my greatest apology to you and your friend for the time you wasted and the loss of your trade because of my unwillingness at the time to help our most precious asset... The customer.
Sincerly,

Letter to Rob Zubak, Director of Sales, robzubak@turners.com and Joe Crump, Manager, Turner's Outdoorsman and and Personnel, personnel@turners.com
To All Concerned,
Good Evening...
I would like to thank Joe for the apology he sent and Rob Zubal and or personnel who dealt with the problem concerning the documents use for a private party transfer.
After the incident on Monday evening, my friend decided to sell his rifle as it looked like doing a trade with me was not possible. On Tuesday I was able to convince him to continue the trade after Joe sent me his apology and we were sure we would not encounter the same problem again. We agreed to meet today during our lunch breaks.
Now to go back to Monday for more details. When we went to the store, before Joe asked for our drivers licenses and paperwork, he made sure that our rifles where empty and clear and in legal configuration. My friend had a SIG 556 which was in a locked case. It was opened and check to see if it was empty and in legal configuration. I had an AR15 in a lock case and it was opened and check to see if it was empty and in legal configuration. I found it funny that Joe actually inserted his finger into the chamber to be sure. After that, he proceeded to ask for our licenses and paperwork and the rest we all know what happened. Fast forward to today.
At our designated time, I drove from my office and my friend drove from his office to meet at Turner's Pasadena for our 12:30 meet. The drive is 30 minutes one-way for each of us. On the way I was feeling good and starting to have faith again at Turner's especially after the problem was resolved rather quickly. I get to the front door and as I was about to enter, my friend was coming out fuming mad. I ask him what was wrong and he said they are refusing to serve us again.
Now has anyone caught what the problem is? I was not even there and we were already refused service. I went in and did get a confirmation that they would not help us. I asked for Joe but Joe was not working at that time. Anyone know what the problem is, anyone? Here goes...
WTF IS WRONG WITH TURNER'S? Are you trying to screw customers and when caught apologize for it and when they come back, screw them again? Why are you trying to lose customers? Do you have enough of them that you don't need anymore. Calguns.net has been a site for bad reviews about Turner's. I have not posted any negative reviews because I have always got good service but now it bit me. Good news travel fast but bad news travels faster and farther. My friend walk out of your store swearing never to buy anything from you and was pissed for wasting his time, money and gas trying to get into your store.
Am I mad? Yes I am mad because you have a policy that say you will not do a transfer on an AR15 if that AR15 was not bought from your store.
Joe, you saw my AR15 on Monday and did not say a word about it. Is that policy even legal? Imagine you had that policy apply to Glocks after the shooting in Arizona. No Glocks because for whatever reason you had but if it came from your store its ok. Now apply that policy to all guns, saves you the trouble of doing ppt's and only making $10 for it. Sounds good doesn't it and its all legal? What if all FFL's decided to follow that policy that if not bought from them, you refuse the transfer. Where would we do transfers, under the bridge? Big 5 has that policy of not transferring AR15 or handguns. But they don't sell AR15 or handguns and I respect that. You guys sell AR15's and yet you refuse to transfer them. That's hypocritical.
With that, I don't think I would miss Turner's if it all burned down tomorrow. Sad for some of the good employees you have, but overall Turner's has left a bad taste in my mouth which will never come off. Excuse me while I go spit.
And that folks is my rant. Thank you for letting me share.
