Teaching a first time shooter advice?

Are there any good videos or outlines online that could give me a list of talking points and things to cover that's are Simple and Basic that a first time lady shooter can easily learn and remember?

I just want a basic outline of what I could do to explain safety, marksmenship, weapon fuctions and field strips as simple as possible, I'm not the greatest Teacher... more of the "do what I'm doing" type hahaha.

Any help or advice to get one of my liberal girl friends on our side?
I'm banging the chick in my avatar, think I can get a CCW now?

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

They have all female events instructed by women for women. You should have seen Mrs. Choprzrul light up when she experienced the empowerment of mastering marksmanship skills. She has even requested that I get her a second rifle so that she can bring a friend next time. Awesome stuff and they are happening all the time all over the place.

Can I join you guys? I've "unofficially" taught multiple females, and they've actually became gun addicts later on. If I gave you a step by step, then I may take up your whole thread. haha.

I emphasize the major rules: Treat EVERY firearm as if loaded and keep your finger outside the trigger until aligned sights/decide to shoot/destroy target and beyond. And at the end, KEEP IT FUN!!!

It's extremely important to tell the learner what she needs to know, but also for you to demonstrate it, and for her to practice it.

Demonstrate each of the NRA rules on safe firing handling, and have her show it using plenty of positive reinforcement. One who is nervous and intimidated is less receptive to instruction than one who is at ease. I also advise students that I will be in very close proximity to them, and not to be irked if I seem too close or talking very loudly.

With each platform (shotgun, pistol, and rifle), demonstrate step by step on how to load and unload each firearm and to render them safe. I have found Snap Caps extremely useful in demonstrating and teaching firearms students on firearms basics.

After teaching the student how to load and unload the weapon they will be using, I demonstrate to the student how to acquire a sight picture, fire the weapon, clear the weapon, and render it safe. After the student has sufficiently demonstrated to me that she can do those tasks, I will allow the student to fire down range. I will correct the shooting posture of the student if necessary.

If you're not a good teacher and need a lesson plan, recommend you send to her to a course; not saying you're not the safest shooter out there, but a 'professional' can keep her from getting your bad habits. Just a thought.

I find that starting new shooters off with a .22 rifle works great, less noise and no recoil. Some want to move onto higher calibers while others only want to stay with the .22 because it is less intimidating. Starting with a higher caliber weapon can instantly turn off a new shooter and reinforce their fear of guns.

Anyone know of any flash games that will help new shooters with how to line up iron sights?

Give her a copy of the four safety rules, and explain/demonstrate them using a non-firearm.

Do the safety review and familiarization indoors at your place or hers on an evening PRIOR to going to the range. Loading, unloading, picking up and setting down the gun. Keeping finger out of the trigger guard when handling. Being cognizant of keeping the muzzle pointed downrange. Sight picture, trigger pull.

No real need to learn field stripping.

I recently brought a friend of my son's up to speed (he joined the Navy), and the 4 rules of safety are the key. He shot better than I did, but was a little Rambo-ish... ha

Most folks can handle a gun and shoot it, and who cares how accurate they shoot until they are comfortable and SAFE w/ the gun.

Luckily, I was able to slap the kid on the back when he kept putting his finger on the trigger.

Just taught my daughter, (I was more polite), and let her dry fire with a 22lr rifle until she never took the muzzle off target... We loaded up and she had a great time.

That seems to be the noob thing - ask questions while swinging the gun at you..
