Help with main/rebound spring replacement on S&W 637 revolver

Anyone ever had their rebound & main spring replaced on a Smith & Wesson 637? I called Smith & Wesson and they offered no suggestions. I called the local gunsmith and suggested I don't go lower than 17lbs on the main spring and no-less that 11lbs on the rebound spring?

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I do want this revolver to go "bang" every time that trigger is pulled. I was also told there could be light strikes toward the primer if the wrong pound spring is installed or if an idiot gunsmith performs the job?

Replacing S&W springs does require acouple of specialized tools. I've done acouple of my J frames without any problems. You can cut up to 2 coils off the hammer spring or Wolff sells replacement spring kits.

One thing I have noticed... replacing springs is nothing like smoothing up the trigger by a good 'smith for a better trigger and dependability. Now I send my S&W revolvers off to Alan Tanaka@AT Custom or Bill Laughridge@Cylinder and Slide.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
