    Have rifle...where to get rabbit?

I have a .22. Where can I go to hunt rabbits in Central Cali? Do you need any tags or anything like that?

I've never been hunting and this sounds interesting; I also ate grilled rabbit once, and it was good.

Which .22 LR load is optimal for bagging rabbit?

    Thanks
    Rojo

(I know my above post sounds very n00b, but I literally do not know anything about the topic.) I'm about to google "rabbit hunting", FWIW.

first off, to be legal and not get your butt in a heap of trouble over a stupid rabbit..

you have to go and spend a day in a hunter safety course, cost $10.
Then you can get a Hunting license, cost $43.

Then just go to the nearest ranger station and ask where its legal to hunt in the Nation Forest. Or find BLM land and hunt.

Also keep in mind, that you've missed the "rabbit" session. The only legal rabbits you can currently hunt are Jack-rabbits unless your in one of the special areas discribed below.

I did hunter saftey last year, i did the online training/test $25 if you pass, takes about 6 hours or so, then had to go take a one day class, then take another test $20 if you pass, thats for the teacher.

Need your California hunter license? Take your official California hunter safety course in 3 easy steps - Approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife!

a list of who does the class.

if you have the time you can take a once a week class, not sure how many days or hours you have to do?.

after you get you're hunter saftey card you can get a hunting license.

make sure you pick up the dfg hunting book (big book, they have a smaller oner which dont tell you much. ) at big-5, walmart and read through it, it will tell you the rules and where you can hunt at.

Actually unless its spelled out some where else, the lead free zone doesn't apply to Small Game. It only applies to Big Game and Nongame.

Please enlighten me of the applicable regulation.

Jackrabbit is great in a stew as well. Since it's leaner, just take any rabbit stew recipe, and add roughly 50% longer cooking time. No upland stamp necessary, no bag limit, all year round unless designated otherwise.

Damn it. I thought one could simple shoot rabbits and squirrels without any of the fees or that crap.

Is this so only on private land?
