Man eyed for possessing illegal weapon
On Aug. 12 at about 3:10 p.m., Fremont police arrested Thomas Reck, 25, and Raymond Erwin, 47, both of Fremont, on possession of a deadly weapon.
Milpitas Police Department informed Fremont officers that Reck had been shooting a sawed-off shotgun at the Target Masters range in Milpitas.
Fremont police ran a background check on Reck, learning he was on parole for possession of a deadly weapon and on probation for auto theft, police said.
Officers went to Reck's home on the 43000 block of Gatewood Street, and found several people standing outside the residence, police said.
Officers located Reck and detained him. They searched the residence, and recovered a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun in the garage, police said.
Officers also searched Reck's vehicle, and found a .357 magnum in the rear passenger compartment, along with ammunition, they said.
Reck and Erwin were booked into Fremont City Jail, charged with possession of a deadly weapon.
Anybody hear about this? Who would take a sawed-off shotgun to the range, especially a range next door to the Police Dept?
I went to high school with Erwin. He didn't seem like the type to make that "mistake". Article also doesn't clarify what he did. Just wondering if it's one of those "1/4 inch too short " guns or a true cut down shotgun.
