STI GP6

A while ago I had wanted to someday buy a Dan Wesson Razorback 10mm, a STI GP6 in 9mm, and a Bren Ten in 10mm. Now that I moved to VA, I bought the STI. It's a nice gun and has a funny takedown procedure but the barrel rotates to lock and unlock. I'm hoping the accuracy is better with the GP6 than with other guns that tilt the barrel to unlock. There's a spiral groove in the bottom of the barrel that drives the rotation during the initial part of the recoil, similar to how the AK bolt rotates from the lug on the bolt riding in a spiral cut channel. I haven't shot the gun yet, but hope to do so next month.



The trigger guard is dislodged to allow slide removal.


The spiral cut on the barrel that causes rotation when the slide recoils. The actual lockup is with the shoulder on the barrel in front of the spiral cut that rotates into a groove machined into the inside of the slide.

The GP6 is a very excellent pistol that I've been wanting to add to my collection for some time. I haven't been able to find a single bad review of one, and when I held one at a shop in Arizona it just felt "right".

Sadly, we won't see these in CA until a few things change. It's not rosterable, and there aren't any 10rd mags for it to my knowledge.

When the roster is taken down, there should be plenty of magazines and parts for the gun. Right now the 17-rd magazines are $42 each and pinning one to 10 rounds is a pain, but you'll only have to figure it out once. The current version has interchangable back straps like the M&P pistols have, but I bought an earlier version with a solid grip.

Hahaha, this is interesting. It gets its name, K100, from the fact that they can run over 100,000 rounds:

I can confirm CHS that to the best of my knowledge the K100 in Zvolen has not failed in all those shots fired . The owner of the range is a friend and i have used the K100 on many occasions . Only problem being that i reside in bloody England !

Ahh, I see now. I was trying to figure out what the point would be to have a rotating barrel over a standard blowback design. I guess the camming action to lock the barrel to the boltface on the slide in minimizes stress on the frame.
